Cannot change desktop background settings (size, tile etc)

I can change my background picture just fine, but any settings after that do nothing. When I set it to center, or tile, or whatever it just stays stretched. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help? I have a samsung laptop with windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

What size is your background picture and what resolution do you have on your screen?

If they would be about the same size, there might be no difference when trying to center it or tile etc.
For test purposes try those options with really small picture and see if they work.

Hm, well if I find a pic that I downloaded thats pretty small it works. But even if I take the pic I originally wanted to use and shrink it down its still only stretched, it looks horrible because its now the picture itself is tiny but stretched out to fit the screen. ??

You might want to check and see if somehow your registry is stuck into a specific display mode. If you feel adventitious, you can find those setting in regedit under HKEY_current_user\control panel\desktop (select the desktop folder)

the setting you would be looking for is called: Wallpaper style. "0" would center it without stretching it.

On the picture that you want to make the background can you tell us what the attributes of the picture are?

Specifically what is the display resolution picture. This should show in the windows explorer when you have the picture selected at the bottom of that explorer window (see attachment)

Dumb question. Did you change the settings in Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Desktop Background and save the changes.

Easiest to get there is right click on Desktop > Personalize > Desktop background.

Wow... Are you assuming that they haven't tried that to begun with. Even if he didn't already check that first the reg setting is stating that it should not be stretched and it is.

Anything is possible. Like I sometimes forget 'Apply' and then wonder why stuff does not work as intended.

Yea, save changes.

The smallest version I've tried is 256X160 and its still only stretched.
