Windows 7: Compaq IJ1200

Windows Vista
Compaq IJ1200

I am trying to use a Compaq IJ1200 printer with my 32 bit Windows 7 computer but when I tried to install the driver I received an error message "Unable to install printer. The printer driver is not compatable with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers." I tried running copying the files from the disk to the desktop and running the setup exe in compatibility mode for Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 but the setup did not run. Is there any way I can get the driver to work? I checked for newer drivers for the printer and could not find any new ones.

What Version of Windows 7 do you have...if you have Professional you might need to change the Group policy settings .. (Anything lower like Home Premium) do not have group policy.. so I am not sure if you can change it with Home editions..

I will check about if Home editions have Group policy (I don't think they do) and I will also check the Group policy with Windows 7 Professional..

EDIT: I have found if you have Windows 7 Professional you have to go to Group Policy Click Start and search Group Policy then open it.. and now find this Local Computer Policy(you should already be under this one) / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Printers / Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers... Select this and another windows should pop up and click the Disable button and click ok and exit out of Group Policy window..ALSO Group Policy or Local Security Policy is NOT in Windows 7 Home Premium and Below..ONLY IN Professional, Ultimate, and Enterpise editions

Hope this Helps..
