Change Order of Grouped Buttons on Taskbar

When I open multiple instances of an application, say Internet Explorer, if I hover over the button group on the taskbar, the previews of the websites appear above the taskbar in the order in which they were opened from left to right (eg. 1st website on far left, ... last website on far right). I have a user who swears that he found an option at one point to cause the websites to appear in the reverse order (eg. last one opened on far left, ... 1st one opened on far right). I have not been able to find an option to do this but the user is expecting me to resolve the issue. Does anyone know if this option exists and where to find it?

I'm sorry but I don't think this is possible. The only way to tweak the taskbar thumbnail previews are through the registry, or using a small portable program called Taskbar Thumbnail Tweaker, but what you are talking about is not an option on this program nor is it tweakable through the registry(I may be mistaken).

housry23, thanks for the reply. I have to apologize. I was working with one of my co-workers and he was the one who was in contact with the user. The issue is similar to what I described but the user has the thumbnail option turned off and is actually getting the pop-up list when he hovers over the button group. The default order is oldest items at the top of the list and newest items at the bottom of the list. The user says that he used to have the newest items at the top. Again I apologize for the misinformation. (the answer is probably the same )

the way i move mine is to unpin the earlier ones and repin i think thats the only way ?

Brianzion - if you're talking about the pinned items on the taskbar then you can simply drag and drop them into any order.

hi im talking about the main items on the left of taskbar i no you can drag and drop the ones on the right.

The only way I would know to do it Internet Explorer is to actually change the tab order.

In this user's case, he's either lying or just grabbed a mirror, looked into it and believed he saw the different order, which he would have. Tell him to get that mirror again and look into it.

Seriously though, as far as I know, no way to change the order without actually changing the tab order within Internet Explorer. A similar principle with other apps that support this functionality.

Change the order of windows on your taskbar

Launch MaxMonkey. The MaxMonkey icon will appear in your system tray. Right click on the icon and select "Organize Taskbar Windows..." from the pop-up menu.

This will open the "Organize Taskbar Windows" window. This window contains a list of windows that appear on your taskbar.

To change the order of windows on your taskbar, make a selection and then use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons.

Entries that appear at the top of this list will be nearest your taskbar "Start" button. Entries at the end of this list will appear at the end of your taskbar.

When you have arranged the taskbar windows in the order that you require, click on the "Apply" button to apply the changes.

I certainly hope so. Users are sometimes so hard to please because they don't know how to explain themselves and somehow, it's your fault. Hopefully this turns out to be it. If not, post more details of what they want.
