Normally you should be able to do this from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items and clicking on Mouse and then choosing the Pointers Tab. You can then select one of the many choices available there.

Of course you can make the pointer look bigger by changing the display/resolution. So as Britton has rightly asked you how are you trying to do this?

By going to control panel and selecting mouse and then pointers tab and under Scheme from there I choose Windows Aero extra xl or large apply the changes. I notice though under Scheme drop down menu there's the word (None) there.

Do you mean that all the schemes that should have shown in the Dropdown List have disappeared?

If so then one thing to do would be to try and install a few third party cursor packs to test if they then show up in the Dropdown List.

Please try to change the mouse cursor from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the mouse easier to use.

Did it help?

Try clicking Use Defaults in the mouse control panel.
Close it, reboot, then come back to it and try to change it again and click Apply. If you have some 3rd party theme installed it can foul things up.
The "None" choice is normal to be there.

You might see if updating your graphics driver will help. I can't provide a link since your system spec aren't filled out.
Use the Driver sweeper link below my sig to remove your current driver after you download the new one.
