Windows 7: System Time Service

System Time Service

I've noticed that whenever I startup the Windows Time service in services.msc is stopped & I have to physically start it.

For the System Clock to synchronise it must always be running. Under Properties it is set to Start and is on Automatic, plus restart on 1st and 2nd failure.

Can any of you check yours to see if it's happening with your PC too please?

Hi Peter,

Mine is the same way. When I manually do the Time Sync. I have to hit the Update Now button twice for it to sync.

As long as it is set to Automatic, Windows 7 should be able to start it as needed.

It's started and automatic in Vista so I figured it should be in Windows 7.

I would have thought so to, but I'm not sure of the reasoning behind that yet. So far I'm not having issues with it as far as the internet time sync working though.

By being on by default, and having as a default server the microsoft time server, Microsoft has been under suspicion in the past that collects personal or other information through this service...

Perhaps they disabled it by default now to prove any doubts false...

· Windows Time Service. This service synchronizes with time.windows.com once a week to provide your computer with the correct time. You can turn this feature off or choose your preferred time source within the Date and Time Control Panel applet. The connection uses standard NTP protocol.
