Solved How to make Windows 7 get working again (black screen with a cursor)?

D is labeled OS and the disk with win7? If so:

confirm the copy for all files (5 total)




Type DIR and press <ENTER> to view the contents of the folder. All the following files must exist:
  • The DEFAULT, SAM and SECURITY files should each be about 262,000 bytes in size.
  • The SOFTWARE file should be about 26,000,000 bytes.
  • The SYSTEM file should be about 9,900,000 bytes.
  • The file sizes presented here are approximate estimations, and may vary depending on your system. If any one of them are 0 bytes, then you should stop what you're doing now and seek an alternative method of recovering your system, because Windows cannot function with a 0-byte size registry hive.
System boots fine now, or still same black screen with mouse pointer?

Almost all the things you did weren't neccessary. But not fatal as well. Only recovery thing that wasn't working as expected was "system restore".... the tool needed to rollback system stuff.

What the copy did was:
-restore an old saved registry. It's not older than 10 days before last succesfull boot.

Does "system restore" work again? You see any restore points from the past when all was working fine? If so... you can use them if you want.

Did you install/uninstall/changed settings a lot last 10 days when system was still working fine? Redo those actions. Of course not the action that caused all the trouble.

Actually the only thing that was important I did was that I fixed permissions.

System restore works fine now but I'm not going to restore since all restores are from today.

Even Windows Installer works now. It didn't work before so I could hardly do anything since I wasn't able to install anything.

The only thing that is strange my AVG Internet Security got uninstalled. Some Windows Updates report an error. But nevermind, I'll fix this since it's not so difficult to tackle.

Thank you so much again for everything. You were the only one who actually deepened into my issue and had a solution without the need for reinstalling Windows. Cheers.

Lesson #1: Never gonna play with stupid permissions anymore.
Lesson #2: Not going to purchase another Windows until they remove these buggy permissions.

I've never had suchlike problems with Windows xp. It was the best one in my opinion. And I'm not so inexperienced, however these permissions could be improved (at least that you could never remove System and Administrators from it). And the registry shouldn't have any permissions at all. Registry should be without permissions (without the ability to change them).

I don't blame you for installer and Avg. Installer started working after your solution.

Permissions to files/folders/registry.... that's the main part of security!!

In winxp you could do exactly the same. (Making the system unstartable as well).
winxp was the best microsoft OS until.... WIN7 was born.

WinXP is a dead OS. Security updates will end soon so running it will be unsupported. It can barely install on new hardware.
