newbie question on "search" and an easier option

this the first of many queries to come, i'm sure.
i do not like that i have to "search" for programs that were at my fingertips inXP.

like i have to "search" for notepad and the command prompt. is there an easier alternative to simply place some basic windows programs in the start menu? i'm sure i will face this with "accessories" too.

Hello Miltk, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to add shortcuts to you Start Menu "All Programs" area.

Start Menu All Programs - Add or Delete Shortcuts

    Hope this helps, :)

If you want the start menu as it was on XP, you may like Classic Shell
It's a program that once installed can replace the start menu with one very similar or XP or previous versions or Windows, plus a few other options. With it you just forget about the search (or keep it as an option) and continue to use the very same menu you're used to.
Additionally, and unrelated to your question, it also includes tons of improvements for Windows Explorer if you like.
