Hi,

I'm trying to set up RDP with W7 Home Premium 64bit. All the instructions refer to three options on the "Remote" tab on the System Properties, e.g.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3922-remote-desktop-connection-rdc-network.html

However, I don't see these three options. I just see a checkbox with "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer" which is checked. However when I try to connect with iTap RDP from a iPAD the connection fails. I have switched off my firewall for the duration of these tests.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks,
David.

David Hi

Switching off your firewall might not be enough some have to be removed. What firewall and AV, and whats the network setup?

Hi,
I'm trying to set up RDP with W7 Home Premium 64bit.
That is your problem right there. RDP is not available in Home Premium. You have to be on Professional or Ultimate.

Thanks. It's McAfee Internet Security Suite. The network setup is just a standard private domain 192.168.x.x type setup.

You read that page incorrectly
Which editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection?

All editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection.

  • You can use Remote Desktop to initiate a connection from any edition of Windows 7.
  • You can connect to computers running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise.
  • You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thus, you can run the client on any version of Windows 7 (Home Premium included), but if you want to RDP into the box...you have to be running Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise on that box.
