Are you having a specific problem that warrants a BIOS upgrade?

yer maybe,my hard drive is 250GB but when its fully formated it still only shows 233GB max, and theres no hidden restore partiton on it e.t.c, and i would like to upgrade my BIOS for the sake of it,and i upgraded from vista to windows 7 so figured it would be a good thing to do re-gaurdless if im having a problem.

Dude, point is since the .wph/.rom/.fd file is not available, the bios cannot be flashed from a usb stick and since the .exe is not working in win7, you're kinda stuck. So either revert to XP, then try flashing. Or, if not possible, go through the update changelog to know exactly what it brings to the table- if its not substantial, just stick to your current bios.

Edit: 250 gb is in decimal system (thats what manufacturers use) and 233 gb is the SAME thing in binary (that the OS understands). Theres NO discrepancy.

Updating the bios is not going to magically create a recovery partition. If your machine came with one you probably deleted it on the way, in any case once you change the OS, whats the big deal about the previous OS?

Majestick,

Well, I doubt its your BIOS that is preventing you from using BitLocker, just understand that flashing your BIOS incorrectly will turn your computer into a paperweight... Good Luck... ;)

Did you make an MS-DOS Disk??? (use your USB Flash Drive)

If not make one (use the HP USB Disk Format Tool)
copy & paste your bios to it
restart and enter boot options and boot from USB
or enter bios and set usb as primary boot device

Type list disk
or disk details

look for the drive letter you have your bios saved to and type eg.F: (to select that drive)

type list disk

a small list should appear and awdflash.exe should be one of them

if its awdflash type =awdflash.exe

A window should open and start flashing your bios
