I have a brand new custom built computer, pretty good hardware, and i have had this problem with the timer being laggy, ie. The clock runs slow, but resets itself to the correct time on reboot, (the time in bios does not lag, it is fine) when 15 seconds pass on my computer, it has been 1 minute 15 seconds on my stopwatch.

so my computers time is about 1/5 of the normal time, and the issue isn't just with the clock, with any timers, ie, animations, any counters, for example on my websites i build if i have a timeout for like 5 seconds, it will take 25 seconds, so it's something to do with the windows timer, i have seen other people with the same problem but i haven't found any solutions.

*I have the newest bios for my motherboard
------
My computer specs are:
*ASUS M4A785-M
*1TB hitachi 7200rpm
*4gb DDR2 corsair Ram
*AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4Ghz
*GeForce DDR5 GTX 480

Update: 60 seconds on my computer took 4 minutes 58 seconds on my stop watch.

This seems to be very common with AMD Phenom running on Asus MB's with 64 bit OS. Some have solved it by turning off C1E in BIOS. Some have had luck flashing the BIOS to a newer version if available. Some have even just switched to another time server.

I'd start with switching the time server. Then try turning C1E off. If that does it, see if you have the latest BIOS. If there is an update, you can then try C1E again. Good luck. A Guy

Thanks for the response, and i have had the latest bios version available since the problem started occurring, and i have had c1e turned off as well, and for the time server, where do you mean? the one i sync it with? because i have tried multiple ones for that too. And i don't think it would be the time server anyways since it's a delay upon all timers on windows, such as animations and such, anything that doesn't use a timer, ie. doesn't have an animation, or a countdown, works perfectly fine.

OK, just throwing the ideas out there. Another thing I have seen posted that "fixed" it for some is disabling CPU throttling or Cool n' Quiet. At some point, the cure is worse than the illness it would seem though. A Guy

Thank you for the responses, I will have to test all of these things the next time it happens.

it occurs when it is disconnected from the power, (whether it is turned on when the power is disconnected, or it is turned off already). It's an odd problem. The first times it happened removing the cmos battery once or twice for 5-15 minutes would fix it, however recently it has been taking 15 or more times of removing the cmos battery, unplugged the power supply, and then plugging it back in and putting the battery back in, and resetting the bios settings to default.

(I bought brand new cmos batteries to test that possibility, however it didn't fix)
and
(this problem has occurred ever since i built my computer, with all new parts)

Maybe this would give you more ideas as to what other possibilities it could be if it isn't one of the ones you have already told me. You seem to know a good amount about this sort of problem though. Haven't been able to find anyone that knew anything at all about it. But i do appreciate your assistance

You are not alone in this problem, and I've tried to help others with it before. Many were successful with these possibilities, but some had no joy. Happy to help. A Guy

Hey, would you be able to point me in the direction of a motherboard that would work well with my cpu without having any of these problems?

Looking for a good quality motherboard
ddr3 1600mhz+
multiple pci express

I can't say for sure another MB won't exhibit this problem, I have seen people have the issue even on Dell PC's. But if you were going away from Asus, due to that being a common thread in this problem, you'd probably be best going with Gigabyte MB. You should start a new post in Hardware and Devices, and ask for suggestions. You can refer to this post if you want, as a reason you were looking for other than Asus. I myself have never used AMD, and use Asus. Someone with hands on experience will have good suggestions. A Guy

Bit of a late response, but I just updated my Bios from 0503 to the newest version, 0906, and it seems to of fixed the problem. The problem went away after i installed the updated bios and restarted my computer, hopefully this is a permanent fix. Guess I will just have to wait and see. But thought I'd let you know so if you run into someone with this problem again. The reason i Hadn't updated the bios sooner is because it said my CPU was compatible, and it said the errors with it had all been fixed, but I guess they improved it even more since.

Thanks.

Good to hear, that at least makes the fixes that work the same, as updating BIOS is one that works. Thanks for letting us know. A Guy
