my laptop was stolen

okay so aboout a week ago my laptop was stolen when somone broke into my moms house, was there earlier and left it there. Now the laptop was a dell and it was runing boinc for prime grid.

curently when I was on prime grid i saw that the last contact atempt was just today!!!!!!!!!!! and i have an ip adress!

hopefull tomorow i can call the police and tell them and hopefully get one of my (old) laptop back!

Sad thing is they will not see more than two months in jail and less if they have good behavior.

Yea that realy gets me mad especialy since it was my mothers house, it was a good thing she was not there when it happened, she could have gotten hurt.

Glad you recovered the IP address of your laptop. That IP address should contain the location/address of the one using it. Now, go tell the police the thief's location and ask them to perform a raid. LOL

Same here.

Some time ago, with a lot of perseverance and luck, i tracked down
someone who had put a lot of credit card details on the web.
I came across it purely by accident. Took a few days, but put all the info together and gave it to the federal cops here in Oz.

Asked to get feedback, but have not heard anything.
(this is the short version of an interesting few nights work).

5 minutes 5 hours all the same to the cops

Cars been broken into 3 times each time I placed a call response time went up one hour.

I saw a lady being forced into a car by a Guy....(not our "a guy" but a random guy) called the cops and three cops drove passed ignored the screaming and yelling, and the cops finally showed up two minutes after he got her in the car and drove off.

okay the police officer was here and gave him all the info and details of my computer. He just left to write a warrent.
other thoughts:
since the isp is time warner cable/roadrunner he said that it may take up to 5 weeks:shock: becouse the isp tend to take a lllllllllllooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg time for the isp to be cooperative.

ISP looking for that ip in there DHCP bank=2 days

getting search warrant for residence in question = 2 - 5 days
cops arriving at location in question... god knows how long
estimated time = WAY TO LONG
