Solved Windows Media Player 12 Won't Install

Hi guys,

I've been having major problems with WMP. I just got this computer back from a repair (faulty motherboard) so it was a clean install.

First off WMP wouldn't import my music into the library even though the right folder was selected, so I tried various ways of getting round that and never solved it, so I thought I'd just uninstall and re-install it via Windows Features, and it seemed to uninstall OK but now it won't re-install.

Most of the time I just get the error, "An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed.", but a minute ago it actually got to the end and prompted me to restart where, just before logging in, it started configuring features before saying, "Failure configuring Windows features, Reverting changes".

SFC finds no problems. Restore didn't work.

I'm getting pretty sick of it to be honest. I just want WMP back. Can anyone help?

Not saying that this will work but due to market differences there is a download for WMP12's features

Download details: Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN (KB968211)

Hopefully this will allow you to install

No luck - "This update is not applicable to your computer."

They appear to have added validation which will check for the korean build

Did you try removing the function from windows features re-booting and then trying to re-install either with this download or by the features route.

Sometimes a re-boot or two is needed with the add and remove features, although it's not always prompted

Give the Fix WMP utility a whirl.

Also, try repeating the process of turning off then turning on WMP.

Tried rebooting and re-enabling, etc. several times. Doesn't seem to manage it because of the aforementioned errors. Also tried the Fix WMP Utility, which did initially work (brought back WMP), but it was gone again by the time I had restarted the computer...

Run a sfc scan.

But i'm puzzled about fixwmp changes reverting on reboot.

Use your Win7 disk and do a repair install and you'll be back in business as WMP is part of the os

We have a winner! Thanks a lot mate. Repair install allowed me to re-enable the WMP and WMC features and then they were here after the restart, and working fine.
