IE8 dosen't save downloads

i solved my own problem. i ran a bunch of scans last night (avg, ad-aware, spybot, and a bunch of online scans) and ad-aware found two Trojan viruses. Win32TroganAgent and Win32TrojanSpy. it quarantined them and after a reboot IE miraculously started to behave properly again.
