I find I'm not having as much fun with this game as I’d like…. and part of the blame is me. I have this tendency to want to explore everything possible, this includes areas I'm not prompted to visit.

Sure I’ve found some wonderful items doing it this way…. but after a while the game starts to drag on, and I feel like I’ve accomplished nothing in that time... I’ve made very little progress on the main quest since starting play on release date, and still haven’t made it to Vegas :o

I did finally track down the men who tried to kill me…. but progressed no further on that quest. What did I do??? Explore yet another unprompted area

Anyways I’ve come to the conclusion that I want to get this game over with since it feels like I’ve been here before (Fallout 3), so I'm going to go against my nature and try following the main quests and those associated with them and get this game over with.

Hopefully the enjoyment will pick up for me, cause as of now what I'm doing is starting to get boring. And, as I said before, I’ve been here before.

That’s my progress report for now.

Later

i know what you mean - it can get a bit tedious at times. it partly explains my need to collect teddies - i must be getting bored.

on my first play-through of fallout 3, i finished it way too quickly as i concentrated on the main quest, and didn't realise how close to the end i was, until too late.

so i decided i would take my time with this one - and i have, so i'm doing a lot of side-quests and general exploration - i can spend an hour or two wandering the wilderness with my buddies, shooting critters and punks, accumulating xp and gear, investigating those little open triangles on my navigation bar.

i do feel though that some of the internal locations (such as vaults and factories) are just way too big and maze-like - it seems it was designed that way just to make the game drag out and last longer, so you get a few more hours for your money - i suppose it's far easier to increase quantity rather then quality.

i think that dragon age (i only played the first one) suffered from the same problem - too much 'filler' content and not enough premium.

more music would help too - i often have the pip-boy radio playing during my travels, only turning it off for conversations. i mentioned a mod above which adds a new station with fresh well-fitting tracks - but if you're playing a game that may take 100 hours or more to finish, the repititiveness of the music doesn't help to keep the fun levels up.

still, it passes the time...

The music tends to be a drag, I turn it off and listen to the ambiance.

Yeah, those maze like vaults & internal areas do tend to get annoying and really don't add much to the game other then making you use up resources.

Anyways, when I played Fallout 3 I explored everything and thoroughly enjoyed the game. In fact I loved it so much I bought the GOTY edition just so I could get all the DLC's. Fallout 3 is one of my favorites.

Now, having just finished Dragon Age: Origins & Dragon Age Awakening, I spent a ton of hours in DA: Origins (at least 100 hours), and in fact I did some so many side quests that I earned the "Easily Distracted" award the game gives…. There really is such an award in the game :D

Awakening didn't have a lot of side quest in it so I knocked it out pretty quick.

I also played Mass Effect 1 & 2, as well as Borderlands, which are all open world games with a few side quests thrown in.

My point is I played so many open world games that I need a pure shoot em up game like FEAR with lots of action to break the monotony. Sure they lead you through to the end, but they sure provide lots of action doing so.

Bottom line is Fallout New Vegas is boring me at the moment, it's not the game’s fault, it’s me. I need some action.

i mentioned a mod above which adds a new station with fresh well-fitting tracks
The music tends to be a drag, I turn it off and listen to the ambiance.

He did mention a mod that adds a new radio station - http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/119495-discuss-fallout-new-vegas-3.html#post1035083 :)

i've found this page listing 5 'essential' mods. i used to mod the hell out of fallout 3, and some of these look good.

civil defense radio - adds a new radio station to your pipboy with some very well chosen tracks and dj announcements.
While I do listen to the radio, love the music, I haven't tried this particuliar mod.

My POV.

Ive been enjoying NV so far, got about 70hrs playtime into so far but am certainly getting the "game is dragging on" feeling.

I think Im the same boat you are Sygnus. I just need some action games for abit, little bit burned out quite honestly.
Then again, I played FO3 alot before NV launched as well.

Just curious who everyone else is allied with, if anyone.

Im on good terms w/NCR (liked)

and Good Friends (Idolized) with the Boomers.

Not sure which way to go with the others this play through.

not encountered any bugs? are there no bloatflies or radscorpions about? ;)

seriously now folks, i've not had many bugs either. sometimes i notice the odd dodgy path-finding issue, where npc's try walking into rocks (which makes them real easy to shoot), apart from that i'm scratching my head trying to think of anything...maybe the odd brief graphic glitch whilst loading textures, and sometimes if you kill somebody the body can twitch and shudder for ages making a godawful noise if it's in an awkward place - but these are real minor.

only one crash so far, a random ctd whilst out walking, wasn't even going through a door or anything...

...and for a modern game in its first week of release, one ctd in 40 or so hours isn't bad at all, especially as fallout 3 crashed like crazy on me.

Honestly Mickey I was referring to Fallout 3 not New Vegas. I'm sure that New Vegas couldn't possibly be worse but who in their right mind can denie that Fallout 3 was the buggiest game of all time?

I mean without the patch it was downright unplayable and with the patch it was only a bit better. The complaints about this game and it's tendency to crash have already exceeded legendary proportions. I mean has anyone read the thread about this? WOW!

I'm not knocking the game itself which was ok but for me it was pretty boring and repetitive, but thats just me because I prefer the standard FPS games more.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat here. Most of what was said is exactly the same for me as well, and I think maybe some of us were hoping or maybe expecting New Vegas to be a somewhat completely new experience, with some redesign in action as well as in atmosphere. I have to say that it really isn't. Sure there's some new critters, and factions, but not enough to get anyone in deep excited, that at least has played F3.

but who in their right mind can denie that Fallout 3 was the buggiest game of all time?

Me :D,

The buggiest game of all time?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Why is STALKER so buggy>? - Rage3D Discussion Area

Cryostasis (for ATI users) - Rage3D Discussion Area - View Single Post - Cryostasis - Horror

I've personally had no major issues with Fallout 3 - other than microstuttering with the radio on, the game played fine for me.... and I played it on Vista Ultimate x64.

Did it crash once or twice, sure... but it certainly wasn't enough to make game play unbearable or unplayable. And certainly not STALKER or Cryostasis buggy!!!

The only major issue that comes up all the time with Fallout 3 is performance under Windows 7, but let's not forget.... the game was released (2008) before Windows 7 release (2009) ;)

And even under Windows 7, the game plays just like it did on Vista for me. But that's me.

My two cents :)

some of us were hoping or maybe expecting New Vegas to be a somewhat completely new experience, with some redesign in action as well as in atmosphere. I have to say that it really isn't. Sure there's some new critters, and factions, but not enough to get anyone in deep excited, that at least has played F3.

Exactly :(
