Shmedia.dll fix equivalent?

Hi folks,

Has anyone figured out the equivalent of "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" for Windows 7? Getting sick of seeing the green bar grind along in explorer everytime I go into a folder with videos in it.
I just want explorer to be really dumb and show filename, date and size without digging into every file and clogging up the system.

This problem occurs because Windows scans the large AVI file when you click it in Windows Explorer. When you click a large AVI file (for example, when you click a 700-megabyte [MB] AVI file) in Windows Explorer, Windows tries to query the index of the file. If there is no index information in the file, Windows performs a loop to check all portions of the file to build the index. Because of the large size of the AVI file (in this example, 700 MB), it takes a long time for Windows to scan the whole file. Because of this behavior, the CPU usage of the Explorer.exe process reaches 100 percent

Jacee - do you have a link for that info? I have some large AVI files with corrupt indices. They are playable, but they are not Explorer friendly.

My current solution is to wrap them in a RAR file uncompressed.

A hotfix for XP. I will keep digging, but I am satisifed with my "fix". I only need to view any single file once in a blue moon.

your solution is Divfix++

Don't be shy, load a file, hit the Fix button,
it writes a new file prefixed with Divfix++ and doesnt alter the original.

How do I disable thumbnail generation for a specific file extension

1. Start the Windows Registry Editor program:
   Start -> Run -> regedit
2. Navigate to the following key:
   "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xyz\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}"
   (replace .xyz with the desired file extension like .avi or .mkv)
3. Right-click on "{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}" and select Delete.

Or alternatively if the DivX preview cause the explorer hang/crash: unregister and/or rename "DivXThumbnailProvider.dll" (at C:\Program Files\DivX\DivX Plus Media Foundation Components\ ).
