Wallpaper will not change to slideshow on Windows 7

Hello all, looking forward to learning more about Windows 7! Some time ago, my wallpaper became a solid color and no longer accepts any changes to slideshows or desktop wallpaper pics I make via the customization option in the Personalization settings. It just...stays at the solid color. I even tried creating another User Account and it DOES work there but, to be honest, I'd really rather try fixing the problem in THIS user account than just...starting from the very beginning in the next user account.

Any ideas on how I can rectify this problem? Appreciate any help you could give! Thanks!

Welcome to Seven Forums EmiDaShogun. First thing I'll have you try is this:

Start> Type Ease of access in search box> Press enter

In ease of access center scroll down and click on make the computer easier to see:



On next page, scroll down to Remove background Images (where available) and make sure it is unchecked:



If not, uncheck it, click apply and ok. restart PC and see if problem is gone.

Ok a couple of more things to try.

Start> In search box type aero> One of the choices that will apear will be>

Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects

Click on that and follow the steps of the troubleshooting wizard.

If no fix, will suggest using the System Files Checker

OK, let me know if your background screen looks like mine. Right click desktop and choose personalize:



Click on the desktop background in bottom left:



Does your screen look like the above? Or the picture below?



If it looks like my background screen, what selection are you using for the picture, and where are your background images stored?

Looks like the "Solid Color" part, however, there is a way for me to choose Pictures from my library. Once I do this, though, no matter how many times I save it, no matter how much I restart the PC, it ALWAYS reverts back a Solid Color. In other words, it does NOT let me choose Pictures or a Slideshow option. I wish I could do a Print Screen so you can see what I mean.

This is a puzzler, obviously not a hardware problem as it works in the new user. Try this, not a fix, but interested to see the outcome. navigate to the wallpaper folder:

C:\windows\Web\Wallpaper

Right click on wallpaper and choose Set as desktop background. Does it work? Does it stay on reboot?

I set my wallpaper with Irfanview

It wouldn't help with slideshow, or fix the original problem, but I'm at a loss. Beyond migrating your settings to the new user. These may be liveable work arounds. To set wallpaper with Irfanview:

Open image in Irfanview

Click on Options> Scroll down to Set Wallpaper, and I choose centered

Nothing happened, even after reboot. Still solid black color. I'm at a loss too. Oh well, may have to learn to live with it or try migrating to new user account. How DO I migrate my stuff to new user account? There's no way I'd remember every icon's place and stuff. Any easy or somewhat simple way to do that?

I've never done it myself, but I believe it can be done with Windows Easy Transfer

Funny, if you hadn't mentioned that it works on other accounts, I had tried to find a polite way to ask if your Windows is valid and legal. Windows reverts to a solid black background after a while, if it is not valid.

You tried sfc /scannow already? Before moving your account, I would try repair installation. It keeps your user accounts, files, apps and settings but repairs / replaces all system files. Tutorial here.

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS


In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

Other ways of gathering the info are:
SIW, System Infomation Wizard | Download

OR
WIN |type MSINFO32.EXE | ENTER

WIN is the key with wavy flag.

Kari, my Windows 7 is most DEFINITELY legal and came with my HP Pavilion Elite HPE PC, AMD Phenom 2 (if that helps at all) which I purchased at Best Buy. I am not the type of person that engages in illegal activities. I'll look into repair installation. Thanks!

Which program did you use to gather your system specs?

Could you also specify the version of Win 7 you are using?

WIN type WINVER | ENTER
WIN is the key with the wavy flag.

At the very top in big letters, you will see whether you have Win 7 Home Premieum, Win 7 Professional, Win 7 ULtimate, etc.
