the game ships with multi-core CPU support turned off for some reason, as if a modern PC gamer doesn’t have a multi-core CPU at the heart of his or her rig. And yet at the same time, the game ships with multi-GPU support turned on. Everybody has a multi-core CPU, but finding someone with a multi-GPU setup is somewhat rarer.

This revelation isn't as shocking as it should be. I wasn't holding my breath anticipating this CoD would be any different from the last CoD: a poorly optimized pos console port. In fact, I can't think of an fps that's come out recently that isn't a poorly optimized pos console port.

that is the kind of stuff that can be found out and corrected before the game release with a public beta

I knew since there was not going to be any demo or beta for Black Ops I didn't want to run out and spend 60$ at launch and have to deal with lag and bugs and then have to wait for patches to fix things on the PC version because it is a console port

these days I am more surprised when I am able to find a PC game that isn't a pos console port

That's one nice thing with console's. When I popped the game into my 360, the very first thing it did was download an update. Updates are fast and game systems are standard.

I bought it on sale from Direct2Drive for $45 and played last night for a couple of hours. it was pretty fun.

Well, I gotta say, that is pretty stupid of them to do. Did they say how to turn that ON or they left it out as well?

Now, while I agree with you on the poorly/unoptimized/ crappy console ports, I gotta say that MW2 is the best I have seen yet... compare to the others ones of course. I am talking about ports people not gameplay.

I have yet to read where/how this can be turned on.

As for MW2: no matter how well polished or how well tapered the turd is, at the end of the day, turd is still turd. That we debate which turd is the best turd only incentives them to produce more turds... because at that point, they know we'll settle for turd.

I'm voting no with the wallet on this one too... which is unfortunate, but, I'm tired of turds.

extra game on black ops menu screen.

hey folks,i have just discovered something i thought some of you might be interested in. after the game is done loading and you are sat in front of a tv in a chair(various monitors around you) with your options of how you wanna play (campaign, multi player,zombies,options) if you then look down into your lap so that you can see your hands strapped to the chair you're in and pump the left and right trigger alternately you will see the straps break and you can stand up (earns you an achievment too!)

go and have a wander round the room and in one corner you will find a computer. log onto it and type doa
this will load a game,which is pretty good! bare in mind the load screen for the secret game lasts about 30 seconds or so,so be patient!

I thought I would check the price on a certain site I use to earn points and get discounts on all sorts of games, consoles and ton of other products.
To my surprise my points now could get me $100.00 off of a PS3 120gb or $75.00 off a Xbox 360 4gb Wifi.
But when I checked on COD Black Ops the same amount of points was only worth $12.00 off of $59.99
So I'm still going to wait and buy it used most likely from Amazon in a couple of months.
Till then I just reloaded MW2 and started paying it again while I wait.

Buy the 360, sell the 360, use the profit to buy the game, now you have a free game.

There are some issues with the game on the PC which is true, but people seem to forget that NO software on release is perfect, not even Win7 was perfect. They have done two updates and with a couple of other steps I am almost where I think the game should be as far as performance for my machine is concerned.

First, delete your config file, then reload black ops, it will regenerate the config file with all the new settings and changes from the updates. Second you need to modify your config file ESPECIALLY if you have a multi core processor such as myself. There are two lines that start like this "seta r_MultiGPU 1" and "seta r_Multicore 0" these are set for a console not a PC. You need to change the GPU to 0 and the Core to 1 then save the file.

After I did these two things I went from a 57-99% CPU usage to a steady 55%, and FPS from 30-40 up to 95+ FPS on any map. Also I would be keeping an eye on these two forums for more info as its developed because I think within a week, this game will be running smooth, lag free and stutter free easily.

The problem is that consoles are one type of hardware and are fairly easy to make games for and not have major issues worked out prior to release. With PC's there are thousands upon thousands are hardware configurations that could cause issues that would be missed. They need to design for pc and then port to console so that common configurations can be QA'ed and fixed prior to release. The console ports also are typically watered down games because of the lack of depth and functionality that a pc offers.
