Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Recently when I am in internet explorer and go into a site the page semi freezes. In other words it just sits there not totally opening up with all the data on a page. If I click to go out then the page fades to an off white with the data still readable. I can then go out and come back in and often all is well. But this happens quite a bit. Any idea what is going on. Running Windows Explorer 8.0.760 with windows 7
thanks in advacne

When that happens, hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc, go to the Processes tab, select "Show processes from all users" checkbox on the bottom, and click the CPU header column to arrange in descending order of what processes are taking up the most CPU percentage. This should tell you what's going bonkers at that point when iexplorer is freezing up. It could be a number of things, but you should check that first to make sure it's actually IE causing the issue or whether it's something else (an add-on or third party program integrated into ie).

This may help.

In IE-Tools-Internet Options-Advanced tab, uncheck the box "Enable memory protection to mitigate online attacks" under "Security". Also, under "Browsing", uncheck "Disable Script debugging (IE)" and "Disable script debugging (others)".

Another question that should be asked is whether it's a particular site or sites, or if it is just random.

seems random. Like i mentioned in my last post this problem is seen on our lap top as well. I never saw anything like this with earlier versions of windows or IE

My first attempt would be to disable all the add-on's and see if one of them is causing this slow down. What antivirus do you use?

Per my link above, what add-on's are installed in IE? Sometimes McAfee's Site Advisor gets installed and possibly other various plugins. If so, McAfee might be the culprit.

The "white" screen is because the browser isn't reponding. If you didn't click on the screen or try to close the browser, it wouldn't turn white on it's own, correct? It only turns white when you finally decide the page won't load, and try to reload or close it? If it is only on random sites, it may be the sites have extensive content like flash, or scripts, or images loading. I have seen this very rarely, rarely enough to assume it isn't a problem, but rather the random page or browsing session.

If it happens enough to test, disable all addons and see if the problem goes away. Addons are the most likely cause.

A Guy

you are right in that it happens when the site seems stuck in limbo. If I hit reload it goes white. From where I am it is happening quite often (mexico) but the weird thing is my wife reported the same trouble with her lap top(also windows 7) when traveling in the states. No clue. I have disabled the addons as suggested but still happens. i have a feeling its going to be one of those annoying things that I have to live with. Never ran into this prior to windows 7 or the new explorer.
