Macrium Reflect Free Edition -- DOESN'T WORK FOR ME

Hi all
seeing a lot of positive posts over Macrium Reflect I thought I would try out the FREE edition.

NO GOOD -- if a STAND ALONE BOOTABLE CD DOESN'T WORK THEN THE WHOLE THING IS USELESS.

The whole point of decent backup / recovery is that you should be able to restore an image using a bootable media if your own hard disk or W7 system becomes non operable.

Both with normal and stand alone editions the boot fails on a laptop

CPU1 Machine check exception 00000000005
CPU 1 Bank 1 32000004000000800
CPU 1 Bank 5 320000121020080400
Kernel Panic not syncing CPU context corrupt.

Now for W7 it's no point attempting to create a Bartpe option since this is only good for XP.

I don't have any problem with ACRONIS - paid for version -- but my version is OLD so I want to upgrade to something newer especially for SSD's and e-sata disks).

I'll try DANTZ to see if that is any better.

Doesn't matter HOW GOOD the product is on Windows itself -- a backup / restore MUST work from an external bootable medium to be of any proper use after any system failure.

Incidently I don't also like ther idea of using the Volume shadow service -- VSS for backup -- doubles the space needed while running from within Windows -- although it doesn't double the final size ofthe backup on disk. It's done because it speeds up the backup -- but for backup I think I prefer ACCURACY over SPEED if either has to be compromised.

Hi there
Thanks for the link -- I'll give that a go -- I REALLY LIKED Bartpe when I was using XP -- great "All round" recovery and general purpose system with a "Windows" type GUI.

Pity Macrium doesn't link to that on its site.

Cheers
