Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

So I'm having some troubles here. I just did a clean install of win 7, I'm coming from XP. I have a rhadeon hd 3850 video card. Xp had no problems with my video card but win7 doesn't. It only shows standard vga adapter. Also when I try to install the ati software suite with catalyst control center and the device drivers, it only installs the install manager and nothing else. Any advice or solutions? I'd love to keep 7 and be able to play my games. Thanks

i would uninstall the ati program

1. go to device manager find the card driver and uninstall
2. switch pc off take card out reinsert card
3. reboot pc let windows install the card then try the cat software again

I've tried this. But the driver wont install cuz the PC doesn't even recognize the card. Im lost cuz win XP didn't have this problem it saw my video card immediately.

AGP card? If so you need to use this driver,

Catalyst AGP Hotfix - Radeon HD 4000 Radeon HD 3000 and Radeon HD 2000 Series AGP products

as there is no support for the AGP cards from the HD 2xxx series and up in the regular Catalyst suite.

Chiumiento in your case you would need the regular Catalyst suite for your onboard HD 4200, that hotfix is only for the HD series AGP cards.

I have followed the link. It brought me to that page where I need to get the download that I just downloaded. So I was going to until you told me not. I could only find the HD series choices. There were none that were not HD series other than the really good ones.

I did look at your profile.... however I've only used systems I've built, therefore I do not know the model numbers/distinctions of pre-built systems or laptops.

We assume nothing and have to ask these questions to help you.

These are the only to I find HD 4xxx series then I find the HD 4200 series in the integrated one. I do believe my video card is built into my PC so I think it is the integrated one. Witch one do you think? I am almost sure it is the integrated one.

If you believe the card is intergrated, download the ones for the intergrated card and install. The system won't expload if they're the wrong drivers

And you did say you had a 4200 series card.

I do not think that any of these apply to mine. I was just looking at the release notes. It shows all the compatible chips. And the ATI Radeon HD 4200 is not in there. The 4200 series is but the 4200 is not.

The 4200 series covers all cards in the 4200 model line. Example: I have a 4890, but I use the 4800 series drivers as there's the 4850, 4870, 4890. The 4200 series driver will cover all these cards.

NO I do not mean it like that at all. I trust you all completely. That is why I am here asking. I am just making sure. I want to know that I am doing everything right that is all. If I did not trust you I would not be here asking you questions. I am not being rude at all or anything. I am just asking a lot of questions. I always like learning as much as possible. I want to someday know everything i can about computers. I want to work on them as a job. But yes I will do it now. I am going to do the integrated one. I am going to do a system restore check point before I do it though. That is what I am supposed to do right. That will put everything back to normal if it does not work right?
