Hello all!
I'll try to explain my problem.
Last week I tried to update my ati 5870 drivers with the latest 10.11. I had 10.9 so far so good.
My problem is that with these drivers I got this message from windows : display drivers have stop responding and they've been recoveres (or something similar).
Same happened with drivers 10.10.
I had to roll back to drivers 10.9 and everything still runs fine.
I'm a bit sad since my computer is brand new (built it in august 2010), no overclock, nothing strange installed, and mostly used for World of Warcraft gaming. I like to keep my computer clean and I'm not used to test or stress or overclok it, but just to play my fav game.
Temperatures are more than fine checked everything...

My overall system :
mobo : ASUS p67 deluxe Vs
on i7 920
6 giga ram corsair
vga ATI Gigabyte HD 5870
SSD HD with WIN 7 64 Pro
Raptor HD with only World of Warcraft installed
1 tera HD for storage

My system runs fine with these drivers 10.9, but I'd like to keep it update also for the online game which is constantly updating to newer versions.

I kindly ask you to give me a solution to this issue of mine that is preventing me from sleeping....

Thanks a lot
Blue

Blue hi

New drivers are released to fix problems. they arent any faster, or better. Sometimes when they fix one problem they create another so why the urgent need to be on 10.11? Might be slower or not work at all

Hello and yes no point changing what works better but I have a heavy suspicion... Win 7 did mess the old and new drivers and now it looks like I have a cocktail of 10.6.- 10.10 amd 10.11 drivers... As I told you I had to recover the computer to the restore point before updating the drivers and notwitstanding this, if I check the dxdiag it says that I have ... 10.11 ....... In the ATI folders I can see all kind of trash from either 10.6 - 10.10 - 10.11 .... It looks like WIN 7 does not install properly the new drivers and keeps old ones and makes a mix of everything. With this sort of stuff my game is not freezing but I definitely dont like a mess like this in my new computer :(

Seems your drivers are messed up

I suggest uninstalling the drivers then using driver sweeper to remove leftover display driver files. Then reinstall the latest drivers in safe mode

It's a known that the 10.11 drivers broke stuff fixed in the 10.9/10.10 drivers tho the fixes were supposedly for games other than Wow.
I'm switching to NV as I have just bought 2xGTX460's mostly because I have found the ATI drivers to be so flaky and the dev's should work for bethesda..they would be right at home.
I'm running 10.11 drivers atm and they seem to work fine with Wow (running 1920x1200 and ultra settings but BC2 is a whole nother thing.

I would think you need to get rid of all your old drivers and do a fresh install of 10.9 drivers. You dont need to install in safe mode tho..normal is quite fine

And as someone above said if your drivers work fine then don't update as it can open a new can of bugs :zip:

I recently had to fix a video problem for a guy - "Display Drivr stopped responding & successfully recovered". It was a ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500. After trying a dozen solutions online, I found one myself that worked. I started up the CCC program, can't remember where the exact setting is but it's a panel with the temperature gages down the right hand side. There was a setting "Enable ATI OverDrive", when I disabled that everything seemed Ok. Seems like a lot of people are having similar issues. Hope this helps somebody.

hello guys
I'm reviving this post since I could not find any solution since then
I tried all drivers that came after 10.9, formatted more than once to try new ones but the prob still persists.
I formatted on sunday and installed the last 11.4 drivers and again I got that "stop responding message"
I still wonder what happens in drivers after 10.9? I'm a bit depressed I cant update my computer ... what could I check? temperatures are fine and why old drivers work and all the drivers after those dont?

Hi.
I played WoW with a 5850 ATI card..there was an issue with WoW and ATI cards for a while...if the game plays fine using the 10.9 drivers then use them...a lot of ppl upgrade grahics cards for no reason except to have the latest drivers installed.

As long as those drivers do what you need of them whether its WoW or what ever else you do on your PC then there is no point in upgrading the driver...it messy, the uninstall leaves crap all over, you need to get rid of it then install your upgrade...lots of b...shit for no noticeable benefit.

imo lol

cheers

Video card driver wise, I'd stick with that 10.9 that is working, you are no longer using a new gen card, and WoW being updated should not be a factor, at all.
I'm on a 5850 and using older driver too in PC I built in 8/2010.
Running fine for all games, including Rift.

Video card driver updates are usually because:
Known issue(s) fixed
New model is out and it needs supported.

If you are having no issues and/or driver developers notes don't indicate anything related to your
make and model, then it aint broke, no need to 'fix' (update) it.
