Hi all. i've reinstalled a brand new OS windows 7 32bit becoz a new SSD just being installed, I've installed all drivers which downloaded from ASUS support, but i can't find the lan adaptor after that, all drivers has been installed correctly from the view of Device manager. if i insert the RJ45 cable, nothing happens, no indicator lights at all.
Now, i can only use the external USB wireless dongle in order to use internet.

i5 760
Asus P7H55-M, the SATA has been set to ACHI during the ssd reason.
4G DDR3 RAM
OCZ vertex2 60GB , OS installed on it.

Double check your BIOS to make sure nothing's out of order there. Has your NIC worked before ?? With Windows 7 ?? Just making sure since you don't specify.

Usually it works to remove the driver for this adaptor and turn off the machine, unplug the machine and push the start button to drain power from the MB,wait a minute then plug back in and power up then see if the adaptor appears. Sometimes clearing the cmos will make the adaptor work again.

This can also be a driver problem in which case using a different driver should fix it.

Hi, thanks for help. but i've tried that method, i've unpluged the power cable for the whole night, it still not working. there are some new test:

I've unpluged the SSD and use the old seagate 7200.12 500G drive (which is empty,NO OS NO FILES) to install new OS, i forgot to insert the OS disk, but a black screen with some notes telling interesting thing,

or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

The PC wasn't connected with the RJ45 cable anyway, does that mean the motherboard has hardware failure?

Can you see the NIC in Device Manager ??

The boot screen you mentioned earlier means the NIC is being seen by the motherboard and apparently working.

Could be a physical layer problem if the NIC shows up in Device Manager.

It's a bit baffling for sure, have you tried to install the Op system in IDE mode to see if it changes the conditions of the problem?

Under Network adapters it should read something like;
Realtek blah blah blah. Probably some numbers and a brief description.

No "bangs" or anything next to it, right ?? If it looks normal, like other hardware does in Device Manager, then Windows is happy with it.

You say you get no light at the NIC when you plug it in and Windows says theirs no connection, right ??

You have a NIC with a physical layer problem. In simple terms, just a bad NIC.

Best fix is to disable it in the BIOS and install a replacement. You should be able to pick one up cheap. You might even ask around your friends and get one for nothing.

I have several I don't need and would be glad to give you one if you're close by.

I've experienced the wrong driver for a device give no symptoms at all through device manager, yet the device not work.

All he did was reinstall windows (on an ssd drive). Major coincedence if the card actually failed while he did that.

I'd suggest that's absolutely the last troubleshooting step.

Try this out first maybe:
Load system defaults in bios
Verify adapter is enabled (if onboard)
Reinstall windows
Fully update with windows updates
Do NOT load asus drivers yet!

Post back with status of devices under device manager tab.

Do you need Lan or 1394 connection for you wired internet.

My Asus board driver/LAN hardware is the same as yours.
Mine uses LAN but when I installed the driver the LAN was disabled and Ethrnet 1394 was enabled. I disabled the 1394 and enabled LAN and it went to working.

Start> Control Panel> Network and Sharing Center

Click the Change Adapter in left column circled in yellow.

If the Realtek device is not showing then the LAN adapter isn't being recognized or the driver is not installed or installed improperly.

If it is disabled right click on it then click enable.

Let me know what you find.

If he answer in the affirmative, he has a bad NIC. Drivers can't fix a physical layer problem.

answers what in the affirmative? I just left a series of steps for him to take of which is only half (or so) of the total process I envisioned...

I had the feeling inappropriate drivers were installed. I felt it was a larger leap to assume the trouble exists in the physical layer and to skip the steps to verify appropriate drivers were installed before suggesting new hardware wasn't the best direction. Everything you advised wasn't poor advice necessarily, just possibly premature. Just my $.02.

Regardless, I think Hopalong has better insight into this ;)

Ouch. I hope I've either misread or misunderstood then and it turns out to be something else. USB NICs tend to be slow.

Best of luck with it either way.
