Hidden partition (laptop) for restore info

I have a laptop (HP) with a hidden partition for restoring it to original condition. I bought the laptop with Vista - but later uninstalled Vista and installed Windows 7. Is there any way to clear the hidden partition and install the files I need for windows 7 - so that when I run System File Checker, it points to the files on the hidden partition and fixes problems?

Of course you can delete the recovery partition. Just give it a drive letter in Disk Management and it can be dealt with like any other partition. But why would you want to move Windows files to there. if you are short in space in your C, just add the freespace you will get from the recovery partition to C. Another option would be to move user folders to that freed-up partition which is a lot simpler than moving system folders.

You can delete that partition from disk management. Hit start and type computer management. Then choose disk management and delete the other partition.

You cant set it up to check that partition for files, but you can use it to restore to if something goes wrong.

If you bought a retail version of Windows 7, it is transferable to another PC. I would make a Macrium image of your recovery partition before you delete it. That way you can restore it if you ever want to sell your PC.

My real objective is for System File Checker to point to my Windows 7 files so that, if something is corrupt, when I run SFC, it will compare the system files with those that are copies of the files in my Windows 7 disk (or point to the disk directly). I no longer need the restore files for Vista. Does anyone know how to do this?

All the files for SFC to run are already installed with Windows 7. You do not need a Windows 7 DVD to run it.

Image backup is still a far better way to go. SFC can help some times but not very often.

Where did version 6.1.7600.16385 come from? I also have 5.90 and have all the latest updates installed.

CBS.log told me that kalinga.ttf version 6.1 etc. was the one that was corrupt.

I would try the version from the DVD, nothing to lose.

First, I have to figure out how to extract it from the original disk. The other thing is that now I think the problem is that SFC is comparing files against the restore version of Vista - and I long ago replaced Vista with Windows Home Premium. Can someone tell me how I can have SFC check files against the Windows 7? I don't mind cleaning the Vista Restore partition out because I'll never go back to Vista. I'd just as soon get rid of that partition and put the W7 files on the main partition. But I don't know which files those are and how to get SFC to point to them. It used to be that I would place the folder I386 in the Windows folder and change the Registry to point to C:\Windows. Windows 7 is different. Can someone help?
