This one is pretty odd aswell...didn't heard about it in Windows Update, until today while browsing Ms site.

I would hold off on any of the current updates. My Win 7 64 bit OS system and one other that has posted on the Dell users forum are now getting a delayed Windows startup. When I boot the PC and after the BIOS Windows 7 would start to load immediately. After the Tuesday updates, now I get about a 30 second delay (just a blank screen and flashing cursor) before Windows starts to load.

I haven't had much time to troubleshoot this, but after the updates, I tried to fall back with System Restore and it reported a problem and couldn't complete the restore.

I do not have delayed windows 7 start up after those tuesday updates...only delayed is the Intel rapide Storage Technology, that is either already set to delayed in the "services.msc" that provide me this feeling since a long time...

Maybe could you have a look first at your services, which are delayed at start-up.

Could be also MSE checking at boot or another Security suite checking protection at start-up...(this is common, and in most security suite it can be unchecked through a box)

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials - it's not doing anything, that I know of, at initial Win start up. Whatever it's doing, it won't let me F8 to the options menu for repair, Safe Mode, etc. The ONLY system change has been the MS updates.

You might want to try out the SFC /SCANNOW command.

It's not a hard drive "error" problem. It's the Tuesday updates. One of the updates is an uninstallable update and I suspect this is causing the problem. There is a post from another user on the Dell forum with the same problem. In addition to the Win startup delay, my CPU fan is speeding up and that too never happened. I have Vista installed on a separate hard drive in my PC and if I boot to Vista, which does not have any of the Tuesday updates, it boots normally, no Vista startup delay and no CPU fan speed up.

I have an Acronis True Image full hard drive backup (from last Friday) I'm seriously considering rebuilding the hard drive with that. Just have to backup some user documents and e-mail's that I need that are later than last Friday first.

And what about uninstall the new updates from "Program & Features"...on the left choose the tab show installed updates, then trace the ones you want to remove. I should told you that earlier...

You could also try a system restore to the RP that the updates created before installation.

System Restore would not "complete". I suspect it's because of the KB976902 which is a "uninstallable" update.

However, I have one of the problems corrected. Whatever the updates did, it corrupted something in my RAID 1 installation. I reset the drives to "IDE" in the BIOS and booted with the primary hard drive and it's booting normally. I've rebooted several times since changing it over and it all boots normally with no delay.

Looks like something in the RAID or the second drive is the problem. I'm going to reformat the second hard drive and then set them back to RAID in the BIOS and then run the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and rebuild the RAID 1 setup and see if that works.
