Solved Win 7 x64 machine connectivity problems with Exchange

I have a machine that has just started having connectivity issues with my exchange server. Machine is running Office 2007 and my exchange server is running 2003.

-I can ping the server name and ip from the machine perfectly fine.

-If i turn off cached mode when I run outlook it displays an error that says I cannot connect to the exchange server or the exchange server is offline. I have over 200 users that are online perfectly fine, including a dozen or so win7 x64 users.

-I have rebooted the machine a few times

-I have released and renewed IP's

-I have flushed the machines dns

-I have also repaired the Office install.


Any Ideas?

No, I tried adding the users account again using a new profile and it had same issues. I have not tried adding a different user entirely.

She is using OWA at the moment to access email.

Check the firewall setting, I had issues like this with my private exchange server... It may have something to do with a corrupt mailbox.

oops forgot to mention that I have already tried shutting off the firewall....still no luck.

I am assuming you have ran an uptodate virus and malware scan?

side note: there is one warning showing in event viewer on the date this started.

"Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange."

Verify your network setting, ensure there is no block to that machine on the exchange server, check the log files to see if it is blocking connection for some reason?

So the OWA works, meaning the mailbox is ok (at least on the server).
You should try loading a new test profile with a test users account to ensure a working Outlook client.

If your test user loads ok, remove machine from domain then add it again.

just logged user into another machine. This one a winxows xp sp3 machine running office 2007. Same issues are appearing on this machine.

Looks to me like there is some issue with her exchange mailbox.

the exact error is "cannot open your default email folders. microsoft exchange is not available. either there are network problems or the exchange computer is down for maintenance."



Note: i can log into either users machine or this XP machine and access my outlook fine.

just start over, remove primary smtp address from current account... recreate new mailbox on server, associate primary smtp and try again.

That is the error I had that I couldnt ever find a straight forward answer for. I can use OWA but not outlook.

Fixed : this users exchange mailbox was actively open like 10 times, 3 HTTP sessions, 5 2007 and 5 2003 sessions. I restarted the service and everything is fixed now.

Thanks, ill have too keep that in mind when I set my exchange back up
