Windows 7 SP1 RTM due on February 16 for MSDN customers, Feb22 for web

I just did a clean install of 7 with the integrated SP1 DVD, went smooth as silk. I also have the SP1 stand alone full version saved to a USB thumbdrive. I haven't tested it yet though. I also have DirectX, Dot Net Framework, IE9, Silverlight, and Microsoft Security Essentials saved to the same thumbdrive. I run though them all before I ever hit windows update. On another thumbdrive I have stuff like Adobe Reader, Flash player, Sun Java plug in for IE, and other programs I use. These days I can do my whole install from thumbdrives. The only time I touch a CD or DVD is to install and play a game.

Just interested really, did you integrate the dvd youself or download a sp1 iso.

Great! Now I am hoping to high heaven that its version number matches the one I got because for some unknown reason Windows conveniently wiped out that restore point in both the Win 7's I have on this machine, and on my netbook.

If the air turns blue over the northern hemisphere, you know my hopes have been dashed....LOL

I downloaded the ISO and checked the MD5 to be sure it wasn't modified. I downloaded Ultimate 32 and 64 bit versions, and then made universal disks out of those.

Just for those that may not know; if you install the SP separately then run the SP 1 removal tool you will not be able to remove the SP if the need arises.

That problem would already be solved here. Full system image before and after.

From there I simply date folders to keep those separate.

As long as the hashes matched up with the ones that I posted back then, then you should be set.

The way that this works is there is a leak, there are hashes posted, and then we eventually check the leaked hashes against the ones MS posts. If they match up then we're good to go!

Right now the info confirmed is that the build strings match, which is a great sign

Sort of. What you really want is the hashes (MD5). So if you look back at my post, it says MD5:<numbers>

So if the leaked md5 says: abc123
and the official md5 says: abc123

then we're in business

I found that a bit odd never having seen any problems installing any SP in the past. With Vista I ran the beta from day #1 straight through to the rtm release for six months on the previous version without a hiccup of any type. Hopefully they got part ironed out for the 22nd.

IE9 isn't part of SP1. It will be released separately. I recommend removing anything 'beta' when installing service packs as they can lock those things in place.

I thought I had a good System restore point, but for some reason it wiped that in all of the installations I did and I ended up with no restore points at all. I'm praying the checksum is the same for the release and what we downloaded.

Unfortunately SPs always remove all the previous restore points.

The SP didn't create a single RP for itself, that is odd, they should have left a single RP for the SP installation.
