The Ivy Bridge yeh I do wile away my meal breaks trawling news items and come up with loads of things that I find interesting and that was one.

Actually last nigth I came up with some others I might just post a thread if I can find the right spot re some other news - like AMD changing their processor names etc which you might agree might make some think they arenew products hmmmm?

The new revision is apparently shipping in 2 days, which is good, so hopefully the motherboards will be available before the expected date.

Since this glitch, I've been having another look at SB, and I've been curious about something.. I haven't heard much of anything about the offerings other than the two I've seen and read about, the 2500k/2600k. They seem awesome, but something doesn't seem right, unless I'm missing something..

AMD will start shipping 8 Core Bulldozer chips soon, even if they're awful, which I really doubt, what does Intel have planned to compete?

Have I missed something? I feel like something went over my head. I haven't heard, but I feel there will be the usual monster chips from Intel, the replacement for the 970/980X, etc etc, but considering what AMD has been saying (sooo much reading from tons of sources, but not much concrete) it seems to me people will be able to grab the high end/enthusiast desktop chips from AMD at or around their typical flagship price, I figure $300/$400. At this point I'm going to assume I'm missing something, otherwise it looks like AMD will be ripping Intel apart.

Although the 2500/2600 OC amazing, at 32nm, giving awesome performance, what about the typical consumer who won't be overclocking, I can't imagine 'any' quad core from Intel running with a Bulldozer chip.

So I'm really lost, no way Intel would allow this, what am I missing? Are there some 6 core chips coming, that 'won't' be in the $800-$1,000 range?

Sorry to run off topic, but I didn't want to start a thread, and the internetz isn't spilling any good data when I search. Thanks ahead of time. I can't stop thinking about this, I've read every single possible bit of info on Bulldozer that I've been able to find, and there's a void when it comes to Intel, I must have missed something, otherwise AMD will have sub $300 chips running circles around Intel, and that just doesn't sound right lol. I think we will know more after the tech show in Taiwan in March. Amd is supposed to be displaying the bulldozer and Intel is supposed to show the successor to Sandy Bridge - Ivy Bridge. I think after the show we will start seeing a lot of benchmarks and discussions.

On Topic: I'm really surprised how quickly Intel fixed this issue, and how good the overall mood has been around the industry. I'm not quite sure how I'd feel if I were affected, but considering how it's played out, it looks like consumers are taken care of. I wonder how OEM's feel, behind closed doors.

Anyway I'm gonna see what I can find out about Ivy Bridge, I'd like to compare what's known of the chips to what's known of Bulldozer. There's an awful lot of info already out on Bulldozer, enough to have me very excited, got money stashed already for the upgrade; IB would have to be pretty amazing for me to switch. More than anything I'm curious if they're sticking with HT, which I think is almost pointless now, I like the 2core module idea that AMD is using, well I guess I'll find out.

I haven't been able to find any reliable info on bulldozer. I heard they said it would be 20-30% faster than the i7.But, which i7 they didn't say. Are they talking about the 920, 950, 980x or the 2600k? But it is always an interesting competition between the two. I wanted to build a 2600K rig, but decided to see what bulldozer was all about. Time will tell.

I mean, I don't want to seem like a bad consumer, but I've had so much luck with AMD, I've never had an AMD Cpu bottleneck a Gpu (contrary to myth that they do..., got screenshots to prove showing my Gpu at 100% load on several games ) and everything I've read so far on Bulldozer, and there really is a LOT out there (official too), that has me pretty content with my roadmap.

I'm not sure of all the details on Ivy Bridge. More than one site says they'll still be 2 and 4 core chips (even if true I feel confident there'll be high end chips offering more), they'll have double the Gpu shaders to 24, and 22nm, so they should be awesome overclockers, especially considering what's already possible with SB. I'm curious if maybe it winds up being quad cores that OC well versus AMD 8 core chips, which may or may not OC well. Who knows, but as of this moment I'm leaning toward AMD, I just love the idea of 4, 2core modules, which will allow each module to work on a single thead, it's like the polar opposite of Intel's Hypertheading. Where Intel's HT offers only slight benefits and only under particular circumstances, these Bulldozer modules will produce obvious benefits no matter the situation. Another big difference is the first BD chips will be 32nm, whereas the IB will be 22nm. Efficiency could be an issue for AMD, but it seems like performance won't be a problem BD will drop long before Ivy, and when Ivy comes, the newer BD APU's will be dropping, heh, way too much to think about, I think for now I'll compare what's actually relevant, Sandy Bridge to Bulldozer, and IMHO, I really, honestly feel that Bulldozer will be much better straight out of the box, as far as...in the hands of some of us, who knows, I can't wait to see one of you guys put a Sandy Bridge on water. So yeah I'm rambling on quite a bit, I just enjoy thinking about it. So long as the Bulldozer chips have thermal overhead, at 32nm, I really feel like they should be much faster than Sandy Bridge, well enough rambling here, I kind of hijacked the thread and it's not something I do, although I'd really enjoy talking about this if anyone shares my enthusiasm for these two chips.

Yes. This means the chips will run cooler over lower voltage with the same performance.

If you are interested, here is the link to the OCZ forum. You have to read a little of it but they are calling OCZ cheats and liars as well as a few other things. But, the most interesting part is that they are getting their 25nm nand from none other than Intel. Now that brings up some interesting conspiracy theorys.

What I have now is obsolete, but I have been playing with the idea of replacing it with this:

Its a little more than that. Haven't seen official specs but rumors say it will have PCIe-3.0 which is twice as fast as the current 2.0. That will be big down the road as new products come out with this new interface. Also some improvement of the internal graphics and new memory controller to support faster speed memory.

Oh jeez seekermeister that is some serious difference in price mate down under they are a bit dearer even though the exchange rate is good (for us) but I suppose taking into shipping it equates out somewhat.
Prices here are AUD$255 1090T & AUD$295 1100T still it is still a little strange because your US prices are miles apart aren't they - comparatively speaking.

A bit OT but does this match the difference in mobos for these two?
