Im not that much into Intel like i was with the P4 but sounds like it might be the Sandy bridge stuff or maybe im just wrong alltogether

that's what i thought, the first thing that came to my mind was "sandy brigdes" but then i re-read the article and "Intel 6 Series", have no idea what that means hehehe..

The glitch it's in the Chipset, wow. that'll cost some bucks

Great. I wonder what this will mean for my new P67 board.

To answer the question above, it doesn't refer to their processors, but the 6x seris Northbridge chips that support the Sandy Bridge processors.

It'll mean that your SATA devices will degrade at some point, but like, really faster that others

As part of ongoing quality assurance, Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released support chip, the Intel® 6 Series, code-named Cougar Point, and has implemented a silicon fix. In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel’s latest Second Generation Intel Core processors, code-named Sandy Bridge. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The Sandy Bridge microprocessor is unaffected and no other products are affected by this issue.
The company expects to begin delivering the updated version of the chipset to customers in late February and expects full volume recovery in April.

It is quite clear which chips:

The tech company said it believes “relatively few customers” were impacted by the issue because systems with the affected chips have only been shipping since January 9. The only systems sold to an end customer potentially impacted are Second Generation Core i5 and Core i& quad core based systems, Intel said.

Second gen Core i-series are Sandy Bridge chips.

Nop, i think that article doesn't explain too much itself, Intel 6 Series is: P67/H67 Chipsets, the processors are OK

Well if you know the 6 series is the chipset, then you know it's that and not the processor.

Sorry, i thought that the story title made it clear. It says Sandy Bridge chipset design flaw. To me, that didn't say it was the CPU itself at all...not sure why it was assumed that I didn't know any better.

Great news for my incoming 2500K + P8P67 combo.

I just hope my motherboard will hold up just fine up until the release of the new revised P6 series chipset.

EDIT: What's the cheapest bootable PCI-E SSD out there right now? (j/k) lololol.

Now this is a very good reason why I don't buy new hardware straight of the ship.

I must say, it is tempting, but not worth the headache. I just built this new machine with an 875K and even it had some glitches, but let's just say that most of the cobwebs had already been removed.

So apparently, this "degradation" only occurs if your using SATA 3GB/s ports.

SATA 6GB/s is safe.

I must say, it is tempting, but not worth the headache. I just built this new machine with an 875K and even it had some glitches, but let's just say that most of the cobwebs had already been removed.

That is a philosophy I've grown to adopt when it comes to a lot of things. Let them work out the kinks. However, even that philosophy isn't fool-proof. Some hardware could be recalled if dirt in the clean room damages the hardware, for example.

I'm glad they caught it early and hopefully no other components are at risk.

After reading SEVERAL articles and forums threads, It's pretty clear that using 0/1 SATA 6GB/s ports is the way to go.
