I might try to get my brother (who works at Microsoft, meaning he can get it from the Microsoft Company Store at a massive discount) to get it for me, maybe for Christmas.

I'll wait until I get a laptop, probably. Then either it will come with it, or it will come with Vista and I will be able to upgrade for cheaper.

Fortunately for me, I work at a Computer Retailer (Dynax, for those who want to know), so I'll be able to buy an OEM disk at distributer prices.

That's how I was able to get Vista x64 Ultimate for under R2000, where everybody else paid almost R4500!

Defintely buy.

++ I'm all for sticking with XP if your hardware is not up to snuff or you're cash strapped, but to not upgrade based on "feature" makes no sense to me.

Just under the hood, things that the USER never sees, there are huge improvements in code between XP and Vista/Win 7. Anti-hacking measures, kernel optimizations, WDDM vs. XPDM, etc. are very noticable in the new OS's.

What is your normal OS? Do you use *nix or OSX (which is officially a *nix, I know)? Are you still running DOS? I would think that at a minimum, increased OS security would impress.

What features in an OS would impress you? Is there an OS out there that impresses you?

I'm asking because I am really curious. I am not trying to mock you in any way. My wife is the same, she went from Win98, to XP to Vista, and could care less. So long as she could run her required apps, that's all that mattered.
