Crysis audio crackle/reverb issue

It seems it's a issue I can't avoid without changing hardware.
The option remains to replay it on my alt box (fx60-8800gtx-4gb ddr) it's plugged into a 42inch tv and was really only meant to playback video though. I suppose if I decide I just have to play it, I'll give it a go on that rig, it has a completely different hardware profile than this one.

Man I'm sorry you're having such issues with the game. I'm currenlty messing around with it on my rig and have no issues. The reason I'm playing it now is because I want to see how the new video card handles it.

Anyways I do hope you find a solution.

Edit - have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the game?

lol yeah I got this video card since the last time I played it, and it looks great, especially considering how old it is now. The sound is just a real mood killer.

Sorry, brain fart... I saw Striker Extreme, somehow confused it with X-FI Extreme and yeah... it all went down hill from there!

What freaks me out is that my friend/neighboor has the same issue with a totally different system and using win XP and I was not able to fix it either.

I totally gave up on it and I never walk away from a challenge... perhaps this post is a new wake up call

As I noted earlier the sound issues has been there since the game was released. I would have thought the issue fixed by a patch(es) - guess not

Well I was able to get it to run on my media system in the main room, but the frame rate isn't stable unless I crank everything down below a point I'm willing to tolerate. the 8800gtx wasn't really meant for 1080p resolutions. Even though it was the big dog at the time I got it, by current standards it's a lower-mid range affair at best. It just doesn't have the streams...

My friend with the crackling issue that I spoke about on my previous posts just got a new Logitech 5.1 speaker system as well as a new sound card... went to his house last night to help set it up. After we were done we tried the game again and the crackling sound issue has totally disappear.

What am I trying to say to say or where I am going with this? Well, perhaps the old card had the issues, perhaps the old 5.1 speaker system was the culprit? IDK, all I am saying is perhaps you want to try playing the game with no speaker system plugged in but only a headset? yet another test you can do?

After reading this, I had a strange thought, reverted to vista drivers for my audio.
It worked...
Only problem is now it's glitchy with other games I will play through and put the 7 drivers back I guess.

Strange how Vista drivers can work and Win 7 won't... I am sure that you have done this already but, you may want to try uninstalling the vista drivers and install a fresh set of win 7 drivers again, you may get lucky

Hmm, just a thought but- what about in game eax settings. All I have ever read it is probs in games and even if your sound card supports it- folks have less probs if they turn it off in game.

Sometimes the mini connector to the sound card is more lose a fit than on other cards- maybe try and remove the connections to the sound card from the speakers and plug it back in- maybe try and wiggle it a lil while music etc is playing- see if that takes away the crackles etc.

I had odd sound probs on this new build- the connection on this msi mobo is not as tight as on all my older abit mobos, crackling etc. I wiggled the green connector a lil and stopped it..

Also My sound was like muffled- in my sound cp I was clicking on the karaoke put a x on it- thinking it was disabled etc- maybe it is or not but it made my sound odd unless I un clicked it and not have the red x showing on it..

My right front speaker was not working- I removed the mini plugs from the base unit and plugged them back in all was fine. My 5.1 had set idle for 3 years- I had been using a mini shelf stereo mini out of pc to rca into the stereo- works great. I figured I should put my pc speakers to use- more speakers and way more wattage and base.

Its just I have/had another pc but never had an extra os to run it. And my speakers are thx- I had read they would not sound right on a normal sound set up- that it wrong they sound great- thx does not run all the time anyway- it defaults back to normal. THX seemed to only kick in in movies etc that used thx- I remembered that and gave it a try- I am happy I did .

Does that card use creative drivers? If so good luck, My self and all the folks I know avoid creative stuff. They pretty much ruined my Audigy2 zs pro plat with updates- paid over 200 bucks for it- My guess is- they think I would run out and buy the next new thing they had out- nope sorry..

Another thing you can try is- from all I read it is best to set system and sound card and all players no more high than 70% volume- I normally set them all to say 61 to 64% as default - but is said you should make all other volume adjustments from the knob on your speakers if it has one.

Having different volume settings across the system and sound card and players can cause popping crackles and hissing etc. and above 70% can do it too.. Also when adjusting the volume from the speaker knob is said best to never go over 70% or distortion etc..

If you have popping etc in players- say playing back mp3's it can be a buffer prob- most players default to like 1.5 or more high- setting it back to 1.3 fixes it.. It was great write ups back in the day at jetaudio forums on the topic- but I have seen threads on other players too- setting the buffer to 1.3 fixed it..

I use jet for nothing but playing back my mp3 collection- it is no better sound on earth than jet audio- I use gom as my system player for everything else- 1 of the first things I do after install and setting them up is change the buffer to 1.3. I never use wmp I would never have it on my systems for anything if I could- but normally install and update it to make sure I have all the codecs installed then I disable it- it is gowd awful if you ask me- I dislike it a lot..

This is specific to the original crysis game, it doesn't even happen in warhead. I finally got around it by installing out of date drivers for my audio device.
Finished playing through in one shot and reverted back to normal win 7 drivers.

Just as a footnote, my speaker system on this thing is large, and the room I'm in is small, I don't think I have ever pushed it higher than 50% volume, any higher than that and stuff would start coming off the walls.

Ha ha ya- My logitechs are like 560watts total and the base is bad ass- I crank them every now and then things vibrate doors things on shelves and the windows- I would guess if I pushed them to 100% and could stand the distortion I could break a few windows..

I more worry about the vibrations on my pc and do not normally play it so loud- and I am not a kid any more. Trying to hold on to my ears. But I have had a ringing in my left ear from child hood- I used to make bombs and rockets etc at a very young age- about blow off my head 1x- my ear has rang ever since.. Loud music and concerts when younger and being right next to the speakers do not help either. Even so- my hearing is better than normal- the ringing can get on my nerves sometimes tho..

Sometimes it goes away but comes back- I seen a product on tv over the counter that is said will stop it- I might try it someday- I am too poor to buy dirt tho- being disabled..

Took me some tweaking on my sound- these reltek drivers suck [ my guess is it is more w7 than the drivers]- My sound was always better in xp and on my abit mobos- the gui is a lil different in w7 versus xp too- I have to up mids and base a lil in my on board sound settings or I can not or can barely hear bots etc talking in my games for some reason. Like the tape players in bioshock- I can not hear them if I set my reltek eq to rock setting- Its freaking stupid- Took me half a day to figure that 1 out..

Well I normally set my on board to rock eq- I have to set it to powerful now- and sound fx do not seem to work right either- I got it sounding good tho- a lil more base than I like for music etc unless playing rnb or rap. Never had any of the type probs in xp and on my abit mobos. I normally would use living room fx- I use none now. But living room fx might make your sound a lil better and for your said small room- Worth a try anyway..

I do read in the last few years reltek drivers suck- but I think it is more a vista or w7 thingy- And said some of the mobo makers do not implement the chips into the mobos properly or change things and puts it out of relteks hands then. It is odd things work perfect in xp and can suck in vista or w7- so who is at fault- I say ms..

Hey, Guys; I think I've found the solution for the crackly/trashy sound in Crysis (and possibly other games). I use USB headphones, and I'm playing at VeryHigh/Custom level in Crysis (45-60 fps). After updating to newest Nvidia drivers, my sound went wonky. I just now went into the sound app in Control panel, and lowered my audio from 24-bit, 48000 to 24-bit 41400. All my choppy, crackling, b0rked sound problems went away.
