Hey peeps,

I am posting here because i only found this after oc'ing but if its wrong i apoligise.

As the title says, my score is way way way too low.

I oc'd my i7 to 3.91ghz (Stable), i also gave my GFX (Stable) a bump as well. In theory that was quite a large overclock which should have given me a decent score.

Bear in mind, i have turned off HT, turbo boost, virtualisation, thermal control.
Oh and i turned off things like Sata 6g, USB 3.0, ethernet, firewire 1394 (basicly everything i don't need or use)

I did a run at stock settings and my score came back as

Overall Score - 20435
CPU - 19045
GPU - 20944
PPU disabled

Not bad to be honest for stock settings with eveything unneeded turned off as i said above.

Now after i overclocked the system my score came back as

Overall Score - 20894
CPU - 18295
GPU - 21932
PPU disabled

Sooo.....

Surely my score should have been a lot higher, i was expecting 25000 or near it for the speeds.

Can anyone shed some light here as i am really peeved as i want to try and get on the leaderboard for my setup and this score is not helping.

BTW, before i forget.

Temps after during overclocked stage -

Core temp - highest temp was 60c for core 0 and under 60 for the other 3.
Furmark stable test - GFX never went over 36c after 10 minutes (Fan was on max, 85%)

Anyways, all input most appreciated.

Lucky

Well, hello there.. Luckystar! :D

First of all, you should never turn off CPU features (except for the ones that saves power: SpeedStep or EIST and some others i don't remember)

The other thing, let me do the math.

GPU: 21932/20944 = 1.0472, which translates into 4.72% more score in the GPU
CPU: 19045/18295 = 1.0409, which translates into 4.09% less score in the CPU (which i'm guessing is because you turned off all the features on the CPU)

Overall Score: 20894/20435 = 1.0224, which translates into 2.24% more score Overall.

Getting a 25k score would mean that you have to achieve with your overclock a 22.33% gain (in 3D Mark Vantage)

Which i'm pretty sure is impossible, because that way we'd all buy a GTX 460, bump it up to obtain a 22.33% difference (in 3D Mark Vantage, not the card clocks!) and theoretically you'd have a GTX 570? that doesn't make too much sense for me.

Can you tell me you OC numbers? (Before and after) i could come up with the math and numbers and give you an even better explanation.

EDIT: i just saw your CPU and did a little math. You OC'd your processor from 3.06GHz to 3.91GHz, that translates into 27.78% of OC! and even that way (turning off the CPU features) it gave you a loss of 4.09% in the 3D Mark Vantage score. let's say that you don't turn off the CPU features and instead of losing 4.09% in the scores, you gain 4.09% in the scores (taken the non-OC'd value).. your scores would be at: ~20600, that MEANS that you only gained 4.09% in 3D Mark Vantage scores with a 22.78% of CPU OC..

Which means that for achieving 25000 scores (22.33% difference from your base score), you need to OC your processor 124.37%, which would be: 6865MHz or 6.86GHz.

NOTE:
this is just the theory and i'm not an OC'er. :geek: i just happen to be good at maths.

Hope that my info helps, and i'll be waiting for the Video Card numbers for me to do the maths and to give you a "decent explanation of how high you'd have to OC your card to achieve the scores you want"

Cheers.

What "Preset" are you running in?

3DMV.JPG

That will determine your score.

Here's mine in Performance (P19922).... Result

To get 25K in Performance I think you have your CPU running in the 4gig range.

Have you compared your score to other scores - Search

It actually doens't make that much of a difference (with 3DMark). You might (might) gain 200 points moving from say 8-8-8 to 7-7-7

CPU & GPU are the biggest factors in increasing score. Heck my SSD upgrade from a spinner HD didn't do much for an increase.

Edit looking back at one of my later results here - Result I have a score of 27974 and I'm only at 3.5gig OC (with turbo enabled) so yeah, you might be a little low.

Hello guys,

thanks for the input but Punkster, you hit it on the nose.

I turned all the CPU configurations back on, C1E, TM, Virtualisation, etc and my score went up, right up

Result

And that was after i OC'd my Graphics and CPU.

Thanks again everyone.

I will be posting that score in the 'post your overclock' thread tonight.
