Decided to take a blast from the past and reinstall this game now that my hardware can properly handle it. (it was a beast when first released)

I have to say it installed and ran without trouble for win 7 x64. That was until about halfway through the first map when the stuttering began. Thus began the process of updating the game.
Unlike many newer patches they have apparently decided to make the FOW updates non-inclusive. Meaning you have to download each of them in order, from their super slow server (two of them are nearly a gig) and wait.

...so the waiting began.
First patch downloaded, start installation. The patch takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Second patch finishes about this time. It takes nearly 30 minutes to complete.

Third patch is basically the same...

That massive time of waste over with I can now play the game, and have to say it's mostly worth the effort. Considering the age of the game the graphics are still passable, and game-play reminds me constantly of the battlefield games. I don't know what system they expected people to run this on at release though as I don't see any system available at the time running it maxed.

I don't know I just felt like blabbing about this...

Same here, more so the second pass which was just a few weeks ago.

Ditto and I am on Win 7 Ultimate 64 as well.

maguscreed, as stated before, I just replayed the game and I didn't even bother with the patches, do they really help the Campaign much? I almost never dl patches from any of the games since they are usually unhelpful for the Campaign.

I would be interested in knowing if they help the Campaign, because if they do, I wouldn't mind having a crack at it again... Cryisis 2 will need to wait a bit more since I am not to convince I am going to get it.

I may be wrong here and/or getting confused but this game had a loooooong Campaign... one of the reasons why I loved it.

I'm still getting some basic stuttering in the game, it's not graphics related i don't know what's causing it at this point. I can lower graphics to nothing, or max them out and it's exactly the same.

I would say that E6850 is more than capable of pushing that game to the limit and so is the 5850? perhaps all you are lacking are just another couple of GBs of RAM.?

Game is only using about a gig of active ram. Which still leaves about half of my ram unused.
This rig plays crysis 2 just fine.

I'm updating my graphics driver. I was one version behind, we'll see.

I'll keep playing with settings, something is responsible, I'm just not locking down what.

If you haven't, don't forget to install the latest application profiles update as well,

Rage3D

It helps with single cards as well and isn't just for Crossfire setups.

Well a general update, I've finally put the stuttering to a sound related issue.
However I can't find a way around it.
...I really need a dedicated audio device instead of this thing that came with my motherboard. It is a actual card but drivers for it are in short supply and not very good.

I'm really more into finishing building my new system anyway, if my funds ever allow this core will wind up in the media center box in the den and I'll have a hex core intel or amd to replace it.
Can't seem to come up with the cash for that right now though.
I originally meant to replace this machine nearly a year ago.
Finally settled on just upgrading graphics because it's all I could do.

My last 2 rigs came with Realtek HD onboard audio and I am very happy with it, I don't have any trouble with it... audio drivers failing can be a mother since you almost never expect to have stuttering issues because of audio.

What's your budget on an audio card? I saw one the other day for a very good price.

There is one Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD 24-bit 96KHz Sound Card...149.99

I know I saw another for much less than that though.

like I said it is actually a card, but they just never followed up with proper drivers for win 7 just the one release, they updated constantly for vista.

...and my budget for this month is about nothing it'll have to wait until next month if anything. I'm not going into savings for a sound card.

dumb question as I am sure you have tried already but... I'm thick headed.

Have you tried any of the Vista drivers... seeing as how you said they did update the vista ones?

Another dumb question... would you be better off with the Onboard chipset card?

it solved a stuttering issue I had in the original crysis game, but then several other things would output no sound at all so I had to revert back to the win 7 drivers.

Sorry to double post but it seems I found somewhat of a workaround to my problem.
Setting it for xp compat. mode seems to make it work properly, but only until the map changes.
Then I have to shutdown the program and restart it for the benefit to show again.
I swear this game is ticking me off.
