These test only show resuts performed on specific malware samples. It does not reflect the real life performance of products. A 0.3% difference does not mean that Eset is better than Norton or vise versa

That would mean that, in some cases Norton can have a protection rate of 100%? (Of course, the user of the PC would have to have experience)

You read my post wrong..Norton has HIGHER percentage than ESET..not the other way around. I personally do not recommend Norton but, I know it is a good software.

what are you going by?

you may want to read the entire comparitive.... nav missed more than MSE did

about 5.3%................ too large of an amount for many, acceptable for others.

avast actually showed the greatest percantage overall.

did you really think nav beat out all the rest by such a crazy large amount? if you did this isn't a put down but you really must re-read the entire comparitve and understand it as a whole.

i am not a nav hater quite the contrary i would be using the av app if MSE wasn't free.

Stable as can be average around 9 to 10 using Windows 7 64 Reliability History.
This is the chart I would go by:

thats an important one for sure...

the entire comparative must be taken into account which shows many close in percentages of what it stops but a bigger spread as in chart above for what they miss.

chevysales, the comparative you referenced has nothing to do with the "Whole Product Dynamic Test".

whs, why is that the chart you would go by? It only tests one aspect of a product.

True, but this is a pretty important aspect. Other measurements like e.g. false positives are relatively irrelevant.

There are many components that it will not test, though, that the Whole Product Dynamic test will, such as reputation systems, behaviour blockers, intrusion prevention systems, etc.

false positives are irelevant?

ok whatever you say.

obviously you have yet to read the "entire" comparitve as refencing one chart and then saying norton was 5% or whatever better is crazy. not even close the entire comparative has to be used as a whole not cherry picking one chart.

and the entire comparive does not think norton is rated like you think. what it misses is weighed as heavily as what it blocks along with how it reacts on a given system, etc.

I always read the whole comparative - and that since years whenever it comes out. It is up to the reader which criteria he/she judges as important and which are not. For me it is the "missed samples" And btw, I use NIS2011.
