Hi, I'm going to buy an HD 4350 for a Media PC so it can be plugged into an HDTV via HDMI. Will this be able to put audio through the HDMI port as well? Any issues on Windows 7? Using Windows 7 x64 7100, going to buy Gigabyte HD 4350. Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

You will need a special DVI-HDMI adapter. I cannot find a cable that does it, and according to ATI tech support, the adapter is the only option. Dig thoroughly thru ATI's online info and you can confirm this. The part is widely available BUT be careful - there are two classes signified by color. Light grey and dark grey. You MUST ensure that they are ATI certified.

Search ATI for:
737-28867: Radeon HD 2xxx Series - DVI-HDMI Adapter does not work
and you will find the part numbers. I have an email from ATI tech that references the colors in reverse order and he/she has yet to clarify.

+1 on the "You can buy a less expensive card" I picked up an HD3850 for $25 for the same application as you. The extra power is for gaming and will have no effect on HTPC applications. HD3xxx series is 5.1 audio, HD4xxx series is 7.1 audio.

Heads up: Check your TV specs and tech support. Not all HDMI ports are the same. On my Samsung LNT4665F, port 1 requires an overscan and port 3 requires an underscan (controls found in CCC, so the "problem" was easily solved for me).

Dear Customer,
Your service request : SR #{ticketno:[8200213166]} has been reviewed and updated.
Response and Service Request History:
Sorry for the confusion, yes you need the light grey adapter.
In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.
Best regards,
AMD Global Customer Care

ATI Part Number: 6140063500G

Note that the correct adapter supports the HD3xxx AND HD4xxx series, so the difference is not related to the audio.

Actually he won't if he gets the right HD 4350 as a lot of them come with a HDMI port on the card already. This one for example,

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100264HDMI Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

And to answer yohan's question, yes it will pass audio over HDMI as the card has its own sound card on it (Realtek, and the drivers for it get installed when you install the ATI drivers). Just a matter of selecting the ATI HDMI Output as the default playback device in the Windows audio settings.

I just purchased this card and installed it. Mostly it is working great. However, the largest I can get my tv (monitor) to disply is 1024x768. Using a dvi-hdmi connection with the onboard video I had it at 1920x1080. Why will it not work with an hdmi-hdmi on this card? Also, the sound options are set to hdmi but... only allow me to set it to stereo. There are no other set up options. Its a five speaker set up, I believe I should be looking for 5.1 audio. I shouldn't need an audio card because the audio is transferred through the hdmi, right? The tv is hooked up to a samsung surround sound system with good bass... I can only hear the front two speakers...... any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Been using it for a few days now with WinXP SP3, Catalyst 9.12 drivers, hooked up to a Sharp 40" at 1080p. . just wondering if anyone had this issue.. when any audio starts, the screen blanks out for a second. So navigating folders makes the click sound, and blanks the screen. Anything with continuous sound plays ok after the first second. Might try loading up Windows 7 on a spare drive to see if it has the same problem or not.

Other than that, great for the $40 I paid.. Battlefield 2, Left for Dead 2 both playable.
