Solved ATI Radeon HD 5750 crashing help

Right so when playing games my pc freezes sometimes the screen goes black sometimes white sometimes beige with vertical lines filling the screen.

I can sometimes get it unfrozen by ctrl-alt-del and go to task manager and shut down the game but most times I have to manually turn it of via the power switch.

The freezes happen when playing a various selection of games, examples include GTA4, Race Driver: Grid, cod4, cod6, F1 2010, Dirt 2 and crysis 2.

My pc has no problems running anything else like iTunes and video converters etc just when gaming.

I can rule out most problems people think it might be:

-it cant be the power supply as my brother has exactly the same power supply and is running a more powerful graphics card (5770) with no problems what so ever.
-it cant be a dodge board as I have changed boards from a micro atx to a normal atx designed for ATI cards
-it cant be the processor as I have changed from a Intel pentium E5200 to a Q6600 and have cooled both with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 heat sink
-I doubt its getting to hot as I have changed from a £30 case to an antec 900 2 gaming case with 6 fans installed (high quality fans)
-I used to use a 9400GT and had no problems with it but it lacked power for performance gaming so upgraded it to the 5750

Im thinking its a problem with the card and was wondering if anyone know's why it does this

Do you have the latest driver installed from AMD?

I did a reinstall of windows a couple of weeks ago and installed new drivers then plus this has happened on older drivers (when they were new) but will install most up to date drivers now

Sounds like it is artefacting. Download Techpowerup's GPU-z and run the stress test on it. If the stress test shows artefacts, it is likely your card is dead.

Make sure you are using the Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z v0.5.3 | techPowerUp
There will be a stress testing feature on there.

Artefacting is where you get screen errors, such as a few yellow triangles in your picture. These are a sign that the card cannot hand the load on it.

Ok to be serious about the hd 5750 did you oc the card and the power connectors tight and not loose also how long have you had it ? is there a possible chance to take it back and exchange

You need to take the stress test on there and watch it for about 30 minutes to check for artefacting (it will tell you if there are errors).
70C is not too high for a GPU, though it is a bit toasty.

Just some info my HD 5770 got to 82c on stress test and that is as far it will go

certain drivers will make the card run varies ways for a while

that i would say is within spec for those cards ,mind you mine has never artifact at that level but im sure most of them get that toasty and newer GPU'S can take a better bashing then earlier technology

Maybe change drivers back to 11.3 or something just seems your system can't funtion with the latest 11.4 never rule out incompadability ------just saying

I have been reading several posts on the AMD forum website about the same issue you are having. Unfortunately, not to many are getting the problem solved. A few people had the problem go away when they updated their motherboard chipset driver to the latest version. GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-P35-DS4 (rev. 2.1)

I will try and keep looking for a solution.

thanks for your help guys, it doesnt seem like im gonna be able to fix it so im thinking of giving the card to my parents and getting a new one, i have been looking at the 6950 can anyone suggest any other ati cards that are good

you can try the 6800 series or the 6900 series ATI cards should be better for you

since you mentioned giving your card to your parents i gave my hd 5770 and 600 watt psu to my dad yesterday for his unit

most of the ATI cards i have had performed good maybe you just got a goose egg

My 6950 get to the same temperature. I thought it was over heating too, but it turns out you don't need to worry so much with GPU's.
Those 6990's get to 80°C+ :shock:
