Solved Can't register windows 7 does Acronis true image take ownership

Can't register windows 7 does Acronis true image take ownership of all your product keys? I had a disaster and went to install windows 7, but when i put my product key in it wouldn't accept it. I then retyped it incase i made a typo but i hadn't, so i done my recovery with acronis true image 2010 and all my products got registered. Can anyone verify this for me

I assume you're talking about Windows 7 activation and no, Acronis doesn't take ownership of your product keys.

Where did you get your Windows DVD? Is a retail version or did it come with your computer?

You can always try to activate via Microsoft's automated telephone wizard.

Go to Start and type slui.exe 4 then press Enter to open the Activation Wizard.

Choose your region for the correct telephone number then follow the automated instructions (you will need a touchtone telephone).

DVD does not boot so its usb i boot from and have never had this problem until i installed acronis. when i did recovery it was activated that made me wonder they take ownership or something else. I am confused.com

It's more likely that your programs were already registered when you took said image.
And of course a restore ideally brings everything back to where it was at the point the image was taken
Hence everything was registered after the restore

Yes true but when doing a clean install should it not activate as its a clean install. I am very confused

A clean install as in done by booting with the original W7 DVD?
Yes absolutely that should go through without a hitch. But what has Acronis to do with that scenario..that's where I get confused

Me too should go through no problem. It must be acronis. I have only started backing up recently never done it before, now what i am thinkinking is acronis has been treated as a computer so to activate anything i will have to go through Acronis to do it. At least i think that is what it is

A clean install is just that and when you carry out one you will have to re-activate Windows unless you're using your computer manufacturer's OEM version of Windows.

Acronis has nothing at all to do with the activation or registration/validation procedures.

I done a clean install starting from scratch and installing windows, entering my product code, and activating. But when i tried to activate windows 7 pro it did not activate so I thought this would happen to the rest of my products. So i just went and installed acronis and recovered my computer and they were all activated.

I just went to Microsoft help and support typed in my Product key and i get this error.

OK, re-reading this thread I can see that you did that. I have to admit to being somewhat confused when I made my above post. I'm not sure why your product code was rejected during your clean install, but as mentioned, It wasn't because of something Acronis did. So where are you at now? Were you prompted to activate Windows after doing the restore and if yes did it activate OK?

No i am registered mate that's what makes me think its something to do with Acronis. Although i know you say it isn't I am stumped for any other reasons why this has happened mate.

One thing you can do is run the Keyfinder | Magical Jelly Bean and compare the windows 7 product code it finds with the one you tried to enter. Don't post the codes here just let me know if they match or not. Did you use the same DVD/media this time around as you did when you originally installed windows 7 ?

They match mate i am stumped think we need an Acronis expert

Just to point out, that window's demanding the product id not the product key. To locate your product id, in control panel click System, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. The long string in the section "Windows activation" is the product id.

stupid me thanks mate and when installing it was ok with the key i entered says my product has expired I own it for life so how can that be? And asks me to type in new product key arrrrrrrrrrrrgggggh

just when i tried to activate it online mate, during installation was ok but with no tick i never do get a tick anyway so that is no problem
