An oldie but goodie!

Does anyone know?

I have been using Windows 7 backup and restore but never tested out the “restore” part and frankly don’t trust it. Another problem is that I don’t have enough room (so says the MS backup program) to backup a 640 GB system disk to a empty 640 GB disk (go figure)! On top of that, I am not backing everything up and the system disk has some 105 GBs still available!

Even though I had my grips about Acronis True Image 2009, it had compression and always worked.

Thanks, JJ

I think 2009 had issues. In fact, I think 2010 says it has issues, but has always worked great for me.

At least one issue with 2010 was when you tried to restore back to a SSD--It craped-out the partition(s). A problem I had with 2009 was when I restored back to a HDD, all the files were duplicated except for a number added to the new file name. I had to go in manually and delete/rename thousands of files--Tens of thousands. I skipped 2010 and got a free 2011 update w/key when I built this machine but I'm afraid to use it. How about YOU try and report back. :)

They all "appear" to work by saving files. The real test is getting the files back onto your disk.

I use Windows 7 backup and have used the system restore twice. It worked so I'm sticking with that.

I had fairly good luck with 2009 but did find some problems. A bit hesitant to buy 2010 and find that I still have problems. Just wish W7 would work better and have compression.

Thanks!

2010 has worked flawless for me under Win7 x64, even with a SSD.

2012 was problematic and buggy at launch, but its been patched and seem to be doing quite well now. At least for me.

Both 10 and 2010 worked fine on W7 here. I just bought 2012, and while it seems to be okay with my one use of it so far, there is a rather long list of gripes about it on the Acronis Forum, advising everyone not to buy it.

Using A/TI 2010 here (build 5,055) and apart from the bloated GUI it works fine.

I do miss the interface from the earlier versions though.

Yes. I had a lot of issues with it myself.
There was a new patch that came out right before I built my new PC ... So I can not say if it was the patch or the fact of a clean windows installation but my 2012 has been doing pretty good thus far.

I have noticed it will still hang and freeze if you try to delete old logs sometimes. Althogh this really isnt a huge deal.
Backups, Restores, Schedules, and Auto Cleanup/Consolodate all tasks seem to be functioning just as they should.

BUT .. I said this before and Ill say it again. The 2012 UI seems like a step backwards to me. I liked the 2010s cleaner, simpler look (and still prefer it).
Was so much easier to find what I need. In 2012 I feel as if Im always digging around to find things.
but thats just a personal prefrence complaint I suppose.
