Is there an upper file size limit on copy & paste function? I've tried to copy my music collection (16.5GB) via copy & paste & it just does nothing. Rebooting will result in copy dialogue window showing briefly before disappearing from sight.

:cry::sarc::cry:

Can anyone suggest a good third party file manager?

Actaully I've done copy/paste functions of that size and greater without using any kind of file manager. In fact I've copied whole partitions and haven't run into any limit other that paste speed - the larger the file, the longer it takes to paste/copy, or permissions.

You might be running into a file that can't be copied due to a permission.

Not sure what the hold up is? FreeCommander will also not copy, unless I'm just being thick?

Individual files will copy but not in bulk.

Three separate chunks copied over. Not ideal, but there.

I originally copied music files from Ubuntu partition to Windows shared partition, maybe that has some weird properties, somehow?

No dice. All down to 1 corrupt file ~ Directory not found error. Must be a dodgy copy or original file corrupt. Will try to copy original across again.

Just one more suggestion for a file manager related product that I use for syncing my music collection, both between my two PC's as well as to my Cowon J3 music player:

Beyond Compare

Intuititive 2-pane presentation, folder/file compare, text/binary compare, syncing from left-to-right or right-to-left, etc.

Obviously could copy a complete folder from one side to the other, no matter how large.

Interesting how you say it appears to be some corrupt MP3 files which caused your problem. Can't imagine what could have happened.

By the way.....in this thread, I see "copy and paste", and "drag and drop", referred to as two different things.....why is that, when they are essentially the same thing?:confused:

Whwn you DRAG a file/folder into a folder on the same hard disk, the file/folder is MOVED (not copied) to the destination folder. If the destination folder is on a different hard disk, the file/folder is COPIED to the destination folder.

Copy/paste is, well, just that - COPY and PASTE.

That's the default action when dragging using the left mouse button. If you click with the right mouse button instead of the left on a drag, when you drop the files at the destination you can select whether to Copy or Move.
