Hi guys..
So I have managed to somehow misplace my Shell32.dll once again and win 7 wont dance for me.

I have got a legit WIN 7 OEM CD in my DVD drive, I have set CD/DVD to 'First Boot' in the BIOS, yet it still wont boot from the disk for me to restore.

I can smash the f12 key on startup which brings up a boot menu screen.. i select first boot from CD/DVD there too.. then I see 'Press any key to start from CD/DVD'

Most frustratingly pressing the 'any' key doesnt seem to work... I dont know if its my keyboard not working at this most crucial time.. im hitting keys left right and center.. but it just times out, ad tries to boot from the hdd..:(

Can anyone please help!? I am in some serious shit, i have assignments due and none of which are backed up on usb's or harddrives (my fault I know)

anyway, any help is much appreciated!

Dave

Might be the dvd itself. Have you tried using it on another computer?

Another way (if you have another computer) is to make a boot dvd from any OS (even linux) and copy the file onto it. Boot from it and copy to the correct location on hd.

that would work if i had it backed up.. this was an unforseen accident.. I wasn't even messing with the system files :P SO i dont have the shell32.dll backed up. I have a perfectly good restorepoint from yesterday, if i could just boot and restore it would all be fine..

Also the DVD is brand new, it is an OEM cd, and ive never taken it out of its case till now.

most accidents are unforeseen. if sheel32.dll is "gone" I would think about malware as well

Download and run malwarebytes and run it in safe mode.

Again if this is a new DVD it is either the DVD or the drive. If you can try it in another computer it would tell you whihc.

also, My keyboard is a USB keyboard.. I will try using a p/s2 keyboard and see if that works better.

No, I dont think it is malware, I was using a 3rd party theme installer to install a theme which undoubtedly had a replacement shell32.dll -- It must have stuffed up somehow. I know because that is the last thing i did before shutting my computer down last.

Or it could be StuxNet.. damn stuxnet!
