I realize that many of you tend to think of old movies as being less interesting than modern movies with all of the action and method acting that they have, but even though I have found a few good modern movies, I tend to much prefer the old classics.

Maybe it is because I'm just an old folgie, but I'm wondering if there are any others here like me...not the old folgie part, but that that have similar tastes, if so, what is your favorite movie? Mine is one starring Gary Cooper and Susan Hayward, titled "Garden Of Evil" (1954). There is a bit of violence at the end of the movie, but it is the part leading up to it that makes it good.

I'm with you Seekermeister, my Grandmother raised me on 40s and 50s movies.

I couldn't pick one movie outright though I've narrowed it down to my 3 favs (in no particular order);

Key Largo (1948)

Force of Evil (1948)

12 Angry men (1957)

p5bdkw,

I have to admit that part of the reason that I posted this thread, is to give me ideas on movies to add to my library. "Return to Paradise - Gary Cooper" particularly caught my eye, simply because I like Gary Cooper so much, but eBaying it, the cheapest that I found was ~$35, which is more than I will pay. I then found it at Amazon, for ~$20, which I would consider, but I didn't like the footnote to their ad:

Important Note: This film has been manufactured from the best-quality video master currently available and has not been remastered or restored specifically for this DVD release.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

I then Googled on, and found some download sites, but they were all torrents, which I don't care for either, so it may be a while before I get to see it.

Seekermeister,
I catch everything on TCM, through cable. You may be able to get it at your local Walmart.

Walmart gives it an "NR', plus a warning, but the film is G-rated.
It's Gary Cooper for crying out loud.

Walmart.com: Return To Paradise (Widescreen): Movies

I never would have thought about Walmart as a source, but since they have free in store pickup, I will probably go that route. As far as the ratings go, since the movie was first released in 1953, I don't think that it would have been rated, but even if it were, it wouldn't necessarily carry over to a DVD release, because things can be added or subtracted from the original.

EDIT: On order. Since they only charged $1.97 shipping, it's easier to go that way, but then they also stuck on another $1.61 in sales tax, but that would have been true regardless of whether it was shipped, or I picked it up. Still, that is okay, since it does appear to be a factory release (MGM).

I actually find a lot of things through Google's Shopping (at the top of the page).

Have to agree with 12 Angry Men. 12 actors in the same room, no car chases, no "action", but just 12 great performances. A Guy

This is sort of dependent on what you consider "classic". I'm too young to have gone through black and white movies, so classic to me would be the original Star Wars (IV, V, and VI). The first six Star Trek movies, and The Warriors (1979). Those are my favourite "classics".

I'd go for virtually all those already mentioned.
Also- The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Charles Laughton version, Aguirre, Wrath of God (Werner Herzog) Apocalypse Now, Fear Eats The Soul, the first two X-Men movies and Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire.

I've always liked 'The Maltese Falcon'. Now there is a classic. I have this one in my collection.
