Hi guys

So This issue has been going on for a while now - I've posted on the Microsoft technet forum but couldn't get much help. If you guys could help me out I'd Really appreciate it! I saw you're forum and it looks really good so thought I'd give it a go! here's what I posted on the other one and I'll provide a link to it so you can see the responses. My Dad really needs his PC for his work - and I feel so guilty that I built it for him and now can't fix it. If you guys can help out - I'll be forever in your debt!

0x8000000000000002 BSOD

I've also uploaded the dump files - if you need anything else just ask!

Thanks - Aryan

:

Basically I'm quite new to this whole process, whilst I'd like to think I'm good at building PC's - Seems there's always things to be learnt.

Anyway the problem is that my PC keeps intermittently getting BSOD or just freezing so I can't do anything except force power down the PC. This issue has been going on for quite a while now and I'd really appreciate it if anybody could help me out!

I looked in the event viewer and found loads of different errors, so have no Idea where to start or which one could be causing the problem.

Firstly is it only the Critical and Error events that I should be concerned with? I have warnings too - but these seem irrelevent.

The critical error is the same error and has been occuring since 01/01/2011. It is: Event 41 Kernel-Power:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

This is obviously what has been happening but I'm not sure why. Most of them come without any details (as I'm guessing they were unexpected and not able to create a dump file?) but the latest one had this

Any clues?

Under the Errors event, I have a Event 11, Disk:

I tried updating drivers - and the graphics one updated so hopefully this solves it! I also read on other posts that this may be the cause of the BSOD so hopefully this may fix the issue.

The only other issue worth mentioning is that I have a Event 34, Kernel-Processor-Power issue:

Idle power management features on processor 1 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware. I get this for both cores. Some reading around told me that the issue is due to the BIOS not having the energy effeciency settings on - but I have them all switched on :S

If anyone can help me - I will be forever in your debt. My Dad uses this PC to conduct his Research and doesn't know how to fix it, I'm just his kid trying to help out - but my knowledge of PCs is unfortunatly limited!

Many Thanks

Aryan

Fairly certain that's a driver error code. I would do the BIOS update if available, and go to your motherboard's MFG site and see if there are updates and whatnot as well.

Thanks Guys for your replies and Help - I really Appreciate it

Jonathan I've done those tests and uploaded all the files you've asked for.
My PC is Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Intel Core 2 duo E8500, 4 GB OCZ Ram, 750GB Samsung F1 HDD and an OCZ PSU, so not cheap kit. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP45C-DS3R iP45 The system is 3 years old, but never really given me any hassel before.

I went onto the manufactures website but I don't think there is a new BIOS update - I think they stopped supporting this board? I used the update utility for the BIOS that they provided and nothing happened.

I think it may be a driver but have no Idea where to start.

Hope you guys can help, many thanks
Aryan

Not really, It might have frozen the odd once or so, but now it is pretty much impossible to use the PC without it freezing or crashing. I've run Memtest86+, checkdisk and other disk utilities - and they all run fine and don't crash, but when I load windows - the hard drive always seems to load/seek loads of files now and then the PC either freezes or a get a BSOD.

Sounds like it might be a drive issue. Are any of the cables loose? Do you have a new cable you can try? Different SATA port?

Yeah I might Have one lying about somewhere and can give that a try, but the cable came brand new with the motherboard and has only been in the case with the PC - any reason you think it might have gone bad?

Were the logs any help to you - I have no Idea how to interpret them!

I am no good with logs, but everything else you have described points to a drive issue, or a hard drive related driver issue.

Cables are bad sometimes. It just happens. I suspect it might be that or the SATA slot on the board. The other thing it could be is the drive itself, but that is usually its own error code..

report shows
Code:
The VolumeDirty flag is set on the disk
cause:	A logical disk has the dirty bit set.
details:	This disk has been marked as dirty, it may be experiencing errors or might have not been shut down correctly
resolution:	1. Run chkdsk on the drive and document any errors identified.
	2. If chkdsk determines that there are errors on the drive run chkdsk /f to repair the errors.
related:	Disk Diagnosis

run chkdsk and then from within windows and an elevated cmd prompt run sfc /scannow ?

also once done with disk checks and scannow please unninstall Kaspersky and replace with MSE for debugging purposes ?

a good place for tracking history in a simple format is goto Reliability history ?

there is no .dmp file in your logs provided so please check your settings and take a look in your %systemroot%\Minidump << where your .dmp files can normally be found ?

the log suggests the service that stopped unexpectedly could be your svchost.exe which is network so check your NIC drivers are up to date ?

I ran diskcheck before and it was fine, however the other day it ran by itself, found loads of errors and corrected them. I'll run it again tomorrow if you want - but the computer is next door and my parents are asleep.

What does the sfc/scannow mean/do?

I use Kaspersky for anti-virus, what is MSE and Debugging?

By the %systemroot% do you mean the HDD top directory? I looked in there but could find nothing :S

Sorry that I don't know much! But I really appreciate your help.

I'll look at the NIC drivers thanls

I have known Avira antivir when windows 7 first came out, incorrectly setting a "VolumeDirty" flag and causing problems and Kaspersky is also a suspect so please unninstall it and replace it with MSE

%SYSTEMROOT% Specifies the location of the Windows folder. Usually the C
drive. i.e. C:\WINDOWS

%SYSTEMROOT%\System32 = C:\WINDOWS\System32

debugging is what we are doing now with your problem ;)

sfc /scannow scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible ?

remember Google is your friend

Heya guys, Sorry I've been away a long time

Problem is still there :S

I looked at the System Root - there is nothing in the minidump folder which is in the windows folder. Is there anything else that I can upload that may be of help?

Chkdsk ran before a few times and once fixed a few files

I just ran sfc /scannow and there were errors which could not be fixed - I've uploaded the log files and they are in the CBS folder. I've uploaded the other logs as well incase they are of any help

Anymore Ideas anyone? Please?

Thanks

I am going to say that if SFC isn't able to fix a file that has been missing or corrupted, then a repair installation might be the next step to try. Back up files that you can that you need, and I would try that next.

Heya

Thanks for the help yet again.
I'm more than willing to try a repair install - but would ideally want to know what the exact issue is first - because if I re-install and still keep getting the same problems - I would lose all the log files and dumps etc. that you guys may need to fix the issue.

In an earlier post you said that it was a driver error - would you be able to identify which one? Then I can hopefully fix the issue

Many thanks

Just an update - I ran the Driver Verifier to see if this was causing the issue and I got a BSOD of Rapport 64 - so will this be the driver that is causing the issue? I have attached the blue screen image. If it is the problem - will a simple uninstall of the software solve the issue? Is there any other way to see if other drivers have been tripped?

Many thanks

Aryan

Did you have Vista installed on the system originally? If so, try installing it again and see if the issues stop. Perhaps the firmware (BIOS) just isn't compatible with Windows 7.

Hi there, a few updates.

Jonathan - thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I found out there was a BIOS update - just that the software provided with the mobo wasn't detecting it so I updated that. After this windows wouldn't boot untill I updated the CMOS to load optimum defaults. When windows booted - it loaded ATA drivers again, so I hope that this might help with the drive errors.

I got another BSOD - but finally Managed to get a Minidump!!! You don't actually understand how happy that made me! Anyway - if someone could debug that and the big orignal one that I've attached 2 posts above this - I would be forever in their debt. I re-did the initial steps for posting so hope this helps

Many thanks guys

Aye, I think we have found our culprit...

The dump blames sprs.sys, which is a form of the notorious SPTD.sys. SPTD is used by Daemon Tools (which is installed), and causes frequent BSODs in Windows. Uninstall Daemon Tools first thing, as it can't work without SPTD. When done, remove SPTD itself with the appropriate tool found here: DuplexSecure - Downloads

In addition, update Kaspersky to the latest version. If you can't find an update, remove the program altogether and use Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

MSE: Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

Kaspersky removal instructions/tool: Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products | Kaspersky Lab United States

Probably unrelated, but still worth it: install SP1: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/learn-how-to-install-windows-7-service-pack-1-sp1
