Please help! My Dad's PC is broke which I built for him! BSOD

I would just like to thank you all for all the help you've given me - I think this might be the solution!

Right Will do that now and then leave driver verifier running over night. Does it matter if I select all drivers on verifier or should I just do the ones shown in your guide?

Another question I wanted to ask you Jonathan - where do you learn how to debug and these other skills - would love to learn this and other things and eventually be able to help out on these forums instead of just asking for help.

Many thanks and best regards to you all

Aryan

Personally, I'd disable driver verifier for now. With the type of BSODs you are having, Driver Verifier has a low likelihood of helping us out. It might make your system very slow while it is running too.

I've learned to debug mainly from experience with different BSODs and reading other people's advice. If you want to get started though, check out this guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/26584-configuring-debugging-tools.html

Jonathan, the Duplex Support link is an update - not a removal software. Is this correct? Also another point - when the crash file came up it mentioned ataport.sys, would this be for the virtual drive that daemon tools installed?

Will read that Debugging website soon thanks!

Thanks again

That Duplex Secure tool can either upgrade or remove, you choose when you run it.

As for the ataport.sys blamed: I'm not sure of any details (or even the fact that SPTD is the cause), but I suspect they are related.

Well in the end I decided to re-install windows as the computer needed a bit of an overhaul anyway and now that I know the issue was software based - I don't have to worry about losing the log files.

I'll keep you guys posted and Mark the Thread as solved if I get no more BSOD's.

Once again thanks all for your help!

I just installed Win 7 and SP1 Won't install - I get an error code: error_sxs_component_store_corrupt (0x80073712) I've attached an image below? Could this be related to the BSOD or something else? Shall I post in a different part of the forum

Many thanks

That's hard to say; it could be hardware related, or it could be a different problem. Try running the Windows Update System Readiness Tool as the error suggests, and we can try to treat it as a normal Windows Update error at this point. If you still can't install SP1, go without it for a while and watch for BSODs.

Hi there guys thanks for the posts

I tried a stand alone install - didn't work
Also tried the readiness fix by Microsoft - and that had no help.

I ran sfc /scannow and that said I had some corrupt files that it was unable to fix - but produced a log file in the CBS folder. Should I post this here or in the dedicated part of the forum?

Thanks again for your help

Thanks Liquidsnak and Jonathan for the replies

I think Jonathan maybe right here - I did a fresh install less than 24 hours ago and have done so many installs that I don't think I made a mistake - although I am not infallible!

Jonathan, I have ran memtest86+ from the Ultimate Boot CD less than 4 weeks ago, did over 17 runs and there wasn't a single error, I can run it again if you want? This being said, I got a BSOD yesterday and the error came up as Memory_Management, however I only got a full Memory dump instead of a minidump - as that is how windows installed and I didn't have time to change the settings. I thought this might of been as I hadn't installed all the drivers yet? I was running Kaspersky update at the time - and afterwards this said that it might have caused the problem? Any ideas? Should I just go to MSE? I thought Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 was a good option? I hate Norton and McAffee - So would avoid them like the plague - but what you guys recommend I'll go with.

Also My HDD is a Samsung F1 750GB - does it matter if I use the Seagate Seatools? I tried the Samsung software - but it just wouldn't work? I did some other Independent Software HDD checks from the UBCD - but not as comprehensive as the SeaTools. Also any particular test to use? I was gonna do the hardest one.

I'll run the stress test too - been looking for a good one of those so thanks very much!

If I get the problem solved - I owe you guys a pint!

Thanks very much

Aryan

Go ahead and run Memtest86 again. What the hey, it can't hurt.

SeaTools will test any hard drive, no matter the brand, so it will work on the Samsung. I did see Samsung's diagnostic once, and I wasn't impressed. I can't remember why though.

Kaspersky 2012 should work fine on Windows 7, and there is nothing suggesting that it is the cause of the crashes. I'd leave it for now and see what happens with the hardware tests.

Hi there guys

Been away for a while sorry, but still having issues now :S

I have 2 more minidumps, can anyone debug these for me please?

Jonathan, HDD came back clean, so did the RAM and I'm pretty sure the CPU is ok on the PC

is anyone able to debug the CBS files that I uploaded?

If anyone can help I'll be forever in your debt!

Many thanks

Aryan

Hey there, welcome back.

Try flashing the beta BIOS from here: GA-EP45C-DS3R (Rev. 1.0) - Motherboard - Products - GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY

What is the make and model of your dad's PSU?

Have you run each of the three Prime95 tests? If not, do so, for about 2 hours apiece.
