As far as PSU's I recommend Corsair, Antec or Seasonic.

You are using the ASUS Q connector to hook up the wires from the front of the case? Power button etc.

Get the manual and double check that the front panel connectors are plugged into the right place including the HD light to the ASUS Q connector.
Some of them will go both ways. So you have to make sure (+) (-) are correct.
Make sure the Reset and power cable are plugged to the right spot on the Q-Connector.

Then make sure the Q connector is plugged in properly to the motherboard. It is easily misaligned and IF it is loose on the motherboard connection it will not make good contact.
Bad contact no voltage no power on.
I know from experience. They are great but a bit of a pain.

If everything else is plugged properly the Q-Conn is where I usually have a problem.

Doc, he's saying it humms when he plugs in the power cord. I've never heard of that.

Swifty, I can't answer, I have never used one. But, Hopalong says they are a pain and fit very loose and will not make contact at times. Check the +/- on the connections.

Hi Swifty. First the Q connector is just to get your front panel connections in one place. The MB should accept your individual connectors from the case. They are color-coded and the MB header should have a matching color if not labeled. If you haven't done so yet, get a can of air to blow out all of the parts and connectors, slots, etc, on your board.

As to the power supply issue check to see if its cooling fan is running. It may have gone bad and just showed up after the innards transfer. If it is not running but trying too it could produce the hum. If this is the case, you'll need to get a new one. Blow the power supply out as best you can too.

The brands essenbe mentioned are really good, I have a Corsair myself.

I think I have had a few PSU that hummed slightly. Never had an ASUS MB. Is this the PSU from the old case, or did it come with the new case ?

Since the PSU is a step-down transformer it will have a natural hum, as any transformer does. It is usually drowned out by all the other whirring and spinning devices inside the case.

Oh, if this power supply WAS installed in the case it's most likely a poor one. Most PSUs preinstalled are el-cheapo ones.

Can you try connecting the front panel ON/OFF switch leads directly to the MB ? NO HD, NO Reset, NO Speaker, NO Led

Edit: Does this MB have any LEDs on the MB that light up, some newer MB's do.

I've built several computers. I guess I never noticed. At least I learned something tonight. As I understand it, his PSU humms before he tries to start it. I think it is the transfer from the old case. This case dosen't come with one.

The ON/OFF & the reset basically use the exact same type of momentary switch.

Good thought Jack I've done that myself after I accidently pushed the the power switch out of its mounting and broke it.

The "HD light" is called the IDE LED on the Asus Q Connector (p. 2-36. That connection has to be oriented the right way. (The power and reset switch connections usually don't; they're not polarized.)

The front panel audio header (p. 2-33) can be set in the BIOS to support either AC97 audio (old) or HD audio. Your Rosewill Challenger case probably has connectors for both.

The board has a power LED on it (p. 2-1). Does it illuminate?

My power supply is OCZ Stealth 650 or 750 watt, I believe, The computer just refuses to boot at all, I am just wondering if it has to do anything with the front panel start button not working, or if it lays some where else, but It might not be, I have the Q connector plugged in with the Power button and Restart button snug as it can get,

There is a green light on my motherboard if that helps any at all.

Go back and read Doc's post #31 and try that. If that dosen't work switch the start leads and the reset leads and try to start. Put the start lead where the reset button should go and the reset lead where the start lead should go. Try to start by pushing the start button. If that fails try to start using the reset button.

Green light on the motherboard is good. All that tells you though is that your plugged into the wall and the board is detecting it.

Also I'm playing catch up from 10PM last night on the thread.

Do you have the secondary power cable plugged into the mother board?
I didn't see mention of that being plugged in just the 20+4.

If what Essenbe posted above does not work then maybe what I post below.

Is this the ASUS Q-connector or the new one that came with the case in this picture?
If it is the new one try using it.
It is marked where front panel cables plug into it and then plugs on the motherboard where the Q connector plugs.

See under your thumb "LED" that is where the HD light from front panel plugs in on this one and the Q-connector.
