I'm trying to burn a System Image of my W7 Pro OS to DVDs and it won't do it. The Wizard keeps requesting a "media larger than 1GB" and "Formatting/Preparing media" and cycling around and around continuously. It will save a System Image to another HDD location but not to DVDs.

Can you copy the HDD System Image to DVDs?

I have an NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A PATA device. Device Manager/Driver Update (online) shows no new drivers for this device.

So what do you think?

Thanx,

Richiesr3

I don't know what you are doing wrong, but--

Saving to DVDs is not the way to go. Technically, possible..practically speaking, not a wise decision.

Backup your image to an external usb drive.

Hey there,

I might be wrong, but it won't burn it to multiple DVDs (if your system image size is larger than your DVD size). It can't split the image. If you want to burn it to DVDs, save the system image to another drive, then split it with a tool like HJSplit HJSplit: free file splitting software for Windows, Linux and other platforms and burn it.

Edit: The reason for this is the system image is a VHD, which doesn't like to be split :(

I am a virtualization enthusiast. I like Hyper-V. It's free.
I'm a Windows 7 fangirl. I will teach a class for you or write a custom course for you RIGHT NOW.
I love EVE Online. I'm Sayra Sainer. I play Starcraft II. My gamertag is Tal0nn. I'm trying not to play Minecraft.
I also like coffee. I'll take a basic triple grande extra-hot breve stirred ristretto caramel machiatto.
I'm glad someone moved my thread. It appears that the answer is right below me now on this discussion board. IJMOLINA is having the same problem.

I'll keep saving it to a another HDD.

If I want to save to DVD, it looks like the advice on that thread says to get Macrium Reflect Free at this link: Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

Thanks though...

I'll call this one solved unless someone else has something to add.

Thanx,

you are wrong. Win 7 Backup and Restore will correctly handle backing up a system image to DVDs.

I don't recommend such but it is a viable alternative.
