Win 7 64bit, no network or internet

This bullsh!t caught me today. I've been using W7-32bit for a year with 2GB of RAM and I finally caught another matching pair on sale so for $40 I upped my system to 4GB and figured I'd use my secondary drive to install W7-64 and take advantage of the full 4GB... but lo-and-behold I'm stuck dumbing my system down to 3GB in order for the onboard NIC to work.

It seeems BastiK1979 even had the same problems with an add-on card. Seems to be a pretty stupid problem. Anyone manage to resolve this?

Hi, hopefully someone here can help me out with this problem, I've tried everything. I've scoured the web and tried everything people have suggested, nothing has worked. Thing is, I can't find anything concrete about whether or not this is a network card incompatibility issue as it seems some people have trouble, while others get online right off the bat without any problems.

I've got Windows 7 64 bit installed. I can't get on the network or the internet really. Bear with me as nothing has been 100% consistent in my troubleshooting.

Note that this is a wired machine I'm talking about, no wireless.

I've attached a screenshot of what I *typically* see. I'm saying typically because last night I was able to get to google.com briefly, but it took a good 10 minutes to load. Then internet was gone again.

The screenshot says I'm on the network, but I'm not really. My win 7 machine can't see my laptop and vice versa. The ping in the screenshot is a result of me trying to ping my router (192.168.0.1) from my win 7 box (192.168.0.10). Most of the packets don't make it at all, every now and then I get a REALLY slow response, and sometimes the ping actually says the response is coming from my win 7 box, not the router (note how some responses are from .0.1, while others are from .0.10). I'm not sure about this, but it also seems my successful responses are related to using ping -t, I *never* get anything but "timed out" using just ping.

I've got the win 7 box set up with a static IP, although I also tried doing it the dynamic way, made no difference at all.

I've tried every nic driver you can imagine. The card is the onboard nic on the Asus P5NSLI board - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010. I don't know exactly which of those models is the exact one, but that's the driver I'm using under XP with no problems at all. I've tried the automatically detected drivers that come with win 7, as well as drivers for vista 64 and xp 64 installed in vista and xp mode. I've uninstalled drivers completely before installing different ones every time (with full shut downs between attempts). I'm currently running the windows 7 drivers directly from Marvell.

I've tried disabling and re-enabling devices on restart.

I've disabled IPv6, as well as the other 2 options that people in other threads suggest (sorry, I can't remember what they're called, I'm logged into XP right now to be able to type this up). I have it set to use IPv4.

I've even checked the registry and services to see if some services were running that were interfering. Found nothing.

No firewall or antivirus.

Also, the network and internet status indicator tends to bounce between no network/network, internet/no internet ... this obviously coincides with those times when my ping packets do in fact make it through to the router.

Anyone have any ideas? I know win 7 is in beta, but I'd really love to get this working if possible. Other than the networking issues, the OS is running beautifully. It's super fast, sound and video works without a problem, etc. It's literally just the nic issues that are getting in the way. I would think this is a driver issue, but I've tried literally every driver available for my card now.

I just want to inform you, I've solved my problem with the P5NSLI board and no network access with 4 GB RAM..! I gave it a last chance and removed the previous Intel Pro 1000 GT *PCI Card* and instead inserted an Intel Pro 1000 CT *PCI Express* Network Adapter and - I couldn't believe it - it works!!!!! Now, after so many frustrating attempts, I can use my 4 GB RAM...! Cool

Hello! Well, I can't remember having set special settings for Windows 7 in my BIOS... I've installed it with RAID disabled. My BIOS Version is 1801. What problems do you have? A Blue Screen?

Yes i have the blue screen of death. and i have found in another post that the motherboard is not compatible with windows 7.

maybe you can tell me how is set your motherboard now.

Well, officially it's only compatible with Windows Vista. But, since Windows 7 doesn't differ that much, it works...
In general, in most cases you get Blue Screens (0x7B - Inaccessible boot device) during Windows Installations when installing without appropriate (mass-storage) drivers to access your harddisk.
So I think it's most important for you to check how your SATA controller is configured to access the harddisks.
In my setup, I don't use RAID (which would require additional drivers for sure!) and therefore did disable it.

In short, I think you should check the following settings (be aware that changing the RAID configuration might cause existing data on your harddisk lost):
1) Advanced - NVRAID Configuration - RAID Enable - Disabled
2) Advanced - IDE Function Setup - <all Options> - Enabled
3) Advanced - USB Configuration - <all Options> - Enabled
I think that's it...

If you still have blue screens I would suggest checking your hardware - for example you can start a RAM check using the Windows 7 DVD.

this is where the drivers are supposed to be for your mobo. no windows 7 drivers are available. this could be for one of two reasons:

• the motherboard is no longer supported and they did not make a windows 7 driver
• windows 7 does not NEED a driver because a good driver is built-in to windows 7
• the windows vista driver is the driver you use for windows 7 (maybe, but I have not heard a lot of success stories)

I am not sure why you are trying every kinid of driver on the planet when the specifications are available via the ASUS support link at the bottom of the page (hard to see though), and the specs are in the manual on the drivers cd (I hope you didn't throw away the cd).


you can look at a new motherboard if you need windows 7 compatibility, or simply pick up a new windows 7 certified NIC, it will have the required features (and the drivers).
