Hey.
I'll jump straight to my problem to keep things short.
I seem unable to use my WiFi connectivity on my notebook. By this I mean that I cannot surf the internet or download anything using download managers <IDM and uTorrent>.
However, strange as it may be, Windows is able to connect to the microsoft update servers and carry on the Windows updates. So I guess it's not a driver problem.

I started experiencing problems with network connectivity a few days back, when my notebook would automatically disconnect from the network when my dad would connect on his notebook. I tried setting the IPv4 IP and DNS manually (thinking it might be a network conflict?) but that didn't solve the issue.

Anyways. Now I CAN connect to the internet while I'm surfing the net on dad's notebook. That is, it shows it is connected to the network and windows updates work fine. But the main problem still persists, dad's notebook switched on or not.

I haven't tried a wired connection yet - I don't have an ethernet cable. .__.

My drivers are up-to-date.

Extra info, might be unnecessary:
I've tried Google Chrome, Firefox 4, IE9.

Chrome says: Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error.

uTorrent says it has a "listen error" and asks me to change the listen port.

I can PING update.msdn.com from CMD.
I can PING Google, gmail.com, wikipedia.com, yahoo.com, youtube.com.
I can PING 192.168.1.3 (dad's laptop)

BUT I CANNOT OPEN THE SITES IN MY WEB BROWSERS. Annoying.

NAV didn't detect anything. I do full system scans on a regular basis (twice a week). Running MalwareBytes just in case.

After the NAV scan I tried restore. Didn't help either.

Hope MalwareBytes detects something and fixes it. =(

Nope, the hosts file was fine (I didn't download the app though). I should have mentioned this earlier, apologies. First thing I did was check my hosts file, and uninstall DNSKong (use it for adblocks). It was a Malware after all (or some kind of infection in the registry :p)

MalwareBytes found an infection in the registry. =)
Turns out MalwareBytes is better than NAV. =D

The problem is now solved. Thanks a lot for all your help and support. =)
