Doc, thanks for Email.

Received an Email from "dustywoodworker" & typed lengthy answer. Did the answer get over to him or did I not do something correctly?

His Email disappeared from the list of Emails; all I saw there was "Charlie4U" and "Doc Brown".

Made mistake; name on post should have been "dustywoodworker", not "Charlie4U".

buffylinden, you get emails because you are "subscribed" to this thread. Meaning any replies, and you are informed by email. You can unsubscribe if you wish, but the emails are not from the individuals, but rather the forum itself, notifying you that a thread you subscribe to has had replies.

To unsubscribe from this thread (so you won't get these emails), Click on Thread Tools at the top of this page, and choose Unsubscribe from this thread.

If you don't mind knowing that people have replied here, then do nothing. But be aware it isn't individuals emailing you, but rather an automatic function of the Forum. A Guy

My thanks to all who have responded. I enter into this decision with some trepidation. I am not a computer whiz (I guess the word these days is geek).

If I chose to make the change, do I need to perform a clean install or will Windows 7 upgrade from XP? I guess the answer to that question will also tell me what I need to buy (complete system or update).

I am inclined to trash the old OS and start from scratch. What say you? Is a compete installation of Windows 7 intuitive (to a non-geek)?

You can buy an upgrade version of Windows 7 but, you will have to do a clean install, this will work and is supported by MS.

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Installing Windows 7 is much easier than installing XP, have the internet connected and it will install most of your drivers.
It is an easy installation, even faster if you put the installation files on a USB memory stick.

I don't understand. If I am doing a clean install (meaning I have reformated the HD), how can I be connected to the internet.

Just leave the internet cable plugged in, if your using wireless it works also.
Much better getting drivers this way, you might want to update a couple drivers but you will be up and running with less/no issues.

I read somewhere that if one does a clean install of an upgrade version that the disk can thereafter be used only on that specific hardware platform. In other words, that the disk could not be used on another computer in the event that I wanted to change platforms. Is that true?
