Hi all,

I'm running the win7 64bit, the printer is connected to the XP. That printer is not a network printer (Hp 5740,and 5520) , and shared from a Desktop running WinXP 32 bit. I cannot install it via network access ? can anyone have any idea about that problem.

Pleave give me any advise. I appreciated .

Thanks in advance,

You didn't give us any details regarding the problem. You could have a problem with the network and permissions preventing you from accessing the printer, or you could have a driver issue where you need to make sure you are using the W7 x64 drivers.

This isn't helpful, but I refuse to set up shared printers this way for friends and family. If they want a shareable printer, they buy a network printer. Windows client OSes aren't always friendly, in terms of loading drivers for OSes that aren't running on the "host" system. A server OS allows this easily.

Now, back to trying to be helpful, fill in the details about what the problem is...as in where you are hitting the roadblock, and we'll go from there.

First question I have is; can you share files and folders right now between the xp and 7 machine?

Thanks for your attention,

First, I cannot refuse to setup a printer via the network, 'cause it is my job
Second, that printer is connected normally by all of the desktop PCs and laptops in my company (all of them are using winxp, some are using win7 32bit).

From the win7 64bit, i can ping, I can access the shared folder from PC with winXP. I can see the icon of the printer connected to that pc. When i double click to connect (install), it runs, download driver from the windows update, and appear the error message that windows cannot connect the printer . That's it ./.

Hope anyone have any different solution!
thanks

You can share files and folders between any Windows versions, especially if you disable "Simple File Sharing" and do it the proper, more traditional way.

For a home network, the easiest method is and always has been, to put the same user account/password combinations on each machine, and put each mahine in the same workgroup.
