Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's ha

I'm trying to do a fresh clean install of Windows 7 x64 on a new harddrive
(Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5") through a USB Key

CPU: Intel i5-2500k
MSI P67A-C43 (B3)

Installing proceeds as normally, until it restarts at Configuring hardware....
The resolution will change and then the error message "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware" will pop up.

I've changed my SATA settings in the bios to ACHI, RAID, IDE and tried installing multiple times under each option but no dice.
I've tried loading Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the MSI website prior to the Windows installation, but its giving me an error message about the drivers not being signed.

Please help. I've been struggling with this for 3 days.

Well it doesnt seem that installing through a usb key is the problem.
As far as my google searches have gone it seems to be something wrong with the BIOS, Drivers, and Harddrive. I've done all the solutions that have come up through searching but again no dice.

I assume you're trying to install from a Windows ISO?

If so, have you tried burning the ISO to a DVD and booting from that?

Perhaps you could use Method Two in the tutorial at Step #12 a and install Windows 7 to the HDD on another PC then when that completes, move the HDD to the target PC to finish-up.

I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. It looks like thats the easiest route to take rather than continually going through all these different settings =/

Try uninstall the Graphic Cards in Safe Mode.

Try this method to enter Device Manager during final hardware config phase of install, uninstall driver(s) showing in error so that installation will complete and you can then update the driver from desktop: Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation

Most often starting the Display driver is hanging the installation. Can you default in BIOS to onboard video chip instead of card?

You can write ISO to bootable USB flash stick using this tool with Win7 in dropdown menu: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3

Then boot the installer and follow these steps for install: Clean Install Windows 7

It sounds like you haven't gotten it to install yet.. if not here is my 2 cents..

Try booting the flash drive off a USB port that has an older chipset that windows has the drivers for (99 percent of all USB 2.0 chipsets windows has a driver for) If you use an USB 3.0 and windows doesn't have the driver for it it can fail.. I have had this happen to me before and I kept thinking my hard drive was unplugged or I had a bad copy of a Windows 7 ISO..

also try setting all USB ports to compatible instead of for speed. (if the BIOS has an option for it)

Hi,

I had the same error message (Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware) when I changed my harddisk on a Dell Lattitude D830.
The new disk has advanced formatting (500Gb) and that was the problem.

I am installing windows 7 SP1 64 bit with MDT 2010.

The solution is to install the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Support for 4k sector disks Intel® Rapid Storage Technology — Support for 4k sector disks in the WinPE image and with the windows 7 drivers.
Also update the Microsoft patch KB982018 (An update that improves the compatibility of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with Advanced Format Disks is available) to both the Windows PE and Windows 7 Image.

With these updates my installation runs fine (for IDE and AHCI).
