Norton 2010 in Public Beta

i m curios because i use since 2002 and i don t have with it problems anymmore

I personally do not use it because they support ask.com and are integrating ask.com toolbars (re-branded as Symantec Search or some such nonsense) after all the shady dealings Ask has had in the past and *continues* to have to this day.

The product is fairly decent, not too heavy on resources and works well. But as long as Symantec supports Ask I will not use their products ( not even Ghost anymore, unless I am forced to at work),.

Hi septprince, are you talking about norton products sold in 2006?
New norton products are nice as compared to old ones. No more resource hog.

I hated norton forever pretty much . I have always used NOD32 or Avast/Antivir/ sometimes kapersky. But NIS 2009 is smooth as hell, couple of hiccups here and there with win7(actually the only thing is sometimes it will stop working after it updates itself after the first install of it) but overall norton has me hooked now.

Norton is nothing like they used to be and you should not need a removal tool at all.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

they still have it for Norton 2009 products. Then again the best norton removal tool is to format and re-install Windows, guaranteed its gone then.

Well, I think Shockwave meant that the uninstall routine has been improved in the 2009 products so the removal tool is usually not needed, but it still comes in handy sometimes

In the past Ask.com has done things like bundling their toolbar with other applications and not offering an "opt-out" feature. Basically they are spyware that borders on malware. The presence of Ask.com in a security product is a real cause for concern because they are interested only in marketing, not in guarding the privacy of the user. If you want more information just do a Google search and you will understand why people are upset that Symantec has partnered with them.

If the trial is that short, I'm sticking with MSE.

i believe you can get new keys from them and continue running it...i was able to get new key to add on to my subscription

I tried it and was impressed by their product this time. Less memory usage, strong AV engine, frequent updates, etc. I you want a paid AV, then either NOD32 4 or Norton 2010 will be a good choice.

They usually limit a build to 14 days and release a new one near the end so you can keep using the product without interruption. This makes sure all the beta testers use the latest builds.
